Chapter 1: A strange notebook.

Yumi Zumakazi was once again bored out of her mind. Math class did have that affect on her. She just had no interest in the subject. Granted, she had no idea what she wanted to do after high school but math class still bored her to tears. She was a plain looking girl with red hair and violet eyes. Her school uniform had a black color scheme. Her father and mother usually fought a lot but she had grown used to it.

The bell rang and Yumi was set free. She was excited because after her math class came lunch break. She went out to the court yard and began eating the rice balls her mother had made. As she finished the first rice ball. she noticed a black book underneath the bench she was sitting on.

"What's this?" She asked herself. Yumi picked up the book and turned it around. "DEATH NOTE was the title.

"What a weird name for a book. Probably belongs to a edgy teenager or something. Still, I could always use another notebook for class." Yumi put the book in her bag and continued to eat lunch. Suddenly she heard a man yelling and turned to see a sighted she dreaded everyday. Kero Motoyami was pushing around his girlfriend Yuki Kazasumo again.

"What have I told you about talking to him?" He said angrily.

"He's just a friend. I swear." She cried.

The sight made Yumi sick to her stomach everytime she saw it. She had tried to convince Yuki to leave Kero in the past but she never listened.

"That's it. I'm going to report that asshole once and for all. Yumi took out the black notebook and wrote Kero's name and some other details. show she could report him properly. She got up and began approaching the school.

"I'm not letting Yuki suffer anymore." Before she could make it to the school however, Yumi heard a loud thud. She turned around and saw Kero on the ground, clutching his heart. He was having a heart attack.

"Oh no!" Yuki cried. "Someone! Get help! Someone please help!"

Yumi rushed to the school and got the nearest teacher. By the time they got their, it was too late. Kero was dead. An ambulance was called to pick up his body ad everyone gathered around in shock as he was taken away.

"How could a perfectly healthy young man die by a heart attack!?" The teacher cried out. Yuki was inconsolable and Yumi had no idea what to feel. Kero was an evil bastard but he didn't deserve to die. School was cut short that day and as Yumi's parent's picked her up, she had the strange feeling someone was watching her.
