It was in 1902 that Envy had been tasked with the best job in his entire life. He wasn't too thrilled about having to disguise himself as a less then attractive human but the plan was so perfectly simplistic and yet it would hurl all of Amestris into full blown war with Ishval.
That's what he liked best about it; the simplicity of it all. It was already known to many of the higher-ups at Central Command that this officer was against the way Amestris was treating the Ishvalans. With this Envy knew for sure that the officer would be court-martialed and for the rest of his days he would forever be hated by his country men for launching them into a massive and bloody war.
It was difficult to say just how long those petty humans would go on fighting. Envy had ventured to guess that it may only be a year at most, given that the Ishvalans lacked so much as a word for "gun". They were all pathetic and weak and they would all die; slowly and painfully. Envy was eager to get this show on the road.
What annoyed him was how his younger brother, Wrath, had said that 'the Ishvalans would put up a fight'. It wasn't that Wrath was routing for them but he knew that taking away someone's homeland would be a far greater task then what Envy and the other Homunculi were expecting. Envy felt as though Wrath was still clinging on to his human half when he spoke such words. They would all die and he'd sit back and laugh.
With the real officer safely distracted by Lust, far down at the other side of the village; Envy began to scour the area for the perfect target. There were so many choices, but which one was the right one to pick? There was an old woman who sat, kitting away outside of her home. 'Perhaps she would do?' Thought Envy 'No! On second thought old hags like her are supposed to die. Not enough people would care.'
Then he saw a sturdy young man helping to fix a home, whose side had been badly damaged in a dust storm. 'If I were to kill him, surely he'd been missed.' Another young man came by and began to assist him. 'No, if I kill him another will just come along...'
Envy felt something tugging at his uniform. He was about to break character and smack away their grubby little hands but as he looked down he saw that it was a small Ishvalan girl. She could not have been any older then 8; she smiled at him. She must have seen this officer around before for she was not frightened by him as some Ishvalan children might have been. She looked at him with her red irises and she swung her teddy bear to and fro. An idea came to Envy's mind. He smiled as he had found his target.
He pulled out his gun and he brought it close to the girl's head. He hated to admit it but he was a poor shot and this close proximity was helpful. Not only that, but this closeness allowed him to watch the look in his prey's eyes carefully. Her eyes widened in terror, her palms began to sweat and her grasp on the teddy bears arm became looser. She made movements with her lips as if she was trying to scream but no sound was produced. She could not see her significance in the face of history but with a single bullet he would make her the most famous child in all of Amestris.
BANG!
She fell back. Her head it the ground with a heavy thud. Her eyes never closed as her blood pooled around her.
The smile on Envy's face stayed frozen there.
She would be the first to fall; she would forever be his favorite kill.
AN: Wow…my first FMA one-shot that had nothing to do with the Hughes family! Believe me I'm just as shocked as you are. Instead of writing about Hughes for the umpteenth time, I wrote about his murderer, lovely!
Oh well, I hope you liked it ^_^
