"Can't you go?"

Syed stared balefully out of the window and tried not to wince as a deafening clap of thunder made the glass rattle.

Christian stretched himself lazily on the sofa and turned off the television with the remote.

"Signals gone, I was enjoying that. You're not scared are you Sy?"

Syed shrugged.

"No, course not. It's just it's chucking it down."

Christian threw a cushion at him.

"But I went yesterday. Anyway you're not made of sugar, you won't dissolve."

Syed turned and threw the cushion back, noticing how green Christian's eyes looked in the sudden flash of lightning.

"But my hair might go fluffy."

He pushed Christian's legs off the sofa and sat down, leaning against him.

Christian grunted.

"I'm not going. You've left all the good umbrellas on the tube. We've only got one with Winnie The Pooh on it now, and I'm not using that."

Syed laughed and pushed himself a little closer.

"Oh go on. Please, just for me. I'll be so grateful, I'll do whatever you like."

Christians eyes glinted.

"Now Sy, that won't work, because whatever I like, you seem to like too."

He put his arm around Syed's shoulders, sensing the tightening of his muscles at another loud rumble of thunder.

"I'm not having chips again. We could ring for a Pizza?" he suggested and then instantly regretted it as Syed retreated huffily.

"Oh Sy, for the millionth time. I do not fancy the pizza delivery boy, he's not a patch on you and he's spotty. I can't help it that he finds me so damned attractive though can I?"

Syed pulled a face in disgust.

"I don't think I can stomach any more double entendres about extra toppings and how salty his anchovies are."

Christian jumped to his feet and pulled Syed up behind him.

"Come on you old Quentin, we'll both go. Get your coat, you've pulled."

Out in the street the rain battered against them as they ran across the square. Dashing through deep puddles, laughing and trying to splash each other.

The thunder boomed about them and a white flash ripping across the sky made Syed jump and cling tightly onto Christian. Water streaming down his face, Christian placed his thumb under Syed's chin and tilted it round towards him, looking down with a slow smile.

"Not scared then?" he asked softly.

Syed smiled.

"No. Well maybe I was. A little bit…"

Another peal of thunder made him tighten his hold on Christian's waist.

He leant up to kiss him, felt strong hands twist into his soaking hair and murmured.

"But not when I'm with you."
