An Avenged Vampire

Chapter 1- Suspicions and Scares

Elena walked down the road beside Stefan, waiting for him to speak. She knew he was incredibly angry, and she knew that he knew that she knew what was, most likely, going on in the news.

There had been recent reports of an immense black raven flying in the skies, as well as an oversized dark wolf in the woods and out.

Elena and Stefan both knew that the two animals were a vampire in their shape shifting form. Both had also seen the animals themselves.

Stefan said nothing still, so Elena broke the silence. "It's him, isn't it?" she asked.

"Yes. I think so." Stefan whispered, trying desperately to control his temper. "He knew he wouldn't win this time, so why come back? Why continue with what went on before?" he said loudly, trying to conceal the screams that had bottled up inside him.

"He wants revenge; to avenge his loss. He must wish he had sided with Catherine at the cemetery. We were so stupid; we must not have seen it. It was probably all an act. Let's just let it drop until we can find more people like us who have their suspicions..."

"NO!" Stefan roared. "You always did try to solve things 'calmly'! Well, you're in my world now, where evil reigns most of the time. So just cut it out. We are not dropping this subject when it has the right to be the first thing on our minds. You're not human anymore, Elena. It's not the same, not even close. And no others are going to help. We don't know anyone, they don't know us. Everyone's a stranger in my world. You need to stop thinking that we're not alone, because we are."

Elena dreaded the question that broke the silence this time, but she knew she had to make a point.

"What if it's not him, and we're wrong. I mean, how can we be sure that we're not wrong?" she whispered softly, knowing that with his vampire ears he would hear.

"I KNOW IT'S HIM! HE'S MY OWN BROTHER! I'VE KNOWN HIM FOR CENTURIES, ELENA, CENTURIES! I RECOGNIZE HIS WORK ANYWHERE!" he roared.

Elena looked away, and Stefen did the same. Up above, an enormous crow flew overhead, and swooped. On the sidewalk in front of Elena and Stefan, it dropped a rolled up piece of paper. It read:

Yes, how can you know or not?

There's only one way to find out:

Meet me at the cemetery, by the Smallwood's tombstone,

Friday night at the stroke of 3.

Don't show and the girl dies.

"What girl will die if we don't come?" Elena began to ask, horrified. But, halfway through the sentence, the raven swooped at Elena, eyes fierce and pitch black, glaring hard. Stefan put himself in front of her, but the bird continued to come, full speed. At the last possible second, it spiraled gracefully out of the way and soared through the skies in the opposite direction.
