Author's Notes: This was written for Rotae on LJ for her prompt of "Rose and Scorpius" and "The Tales of Beedle the Bard".
And as I explain in my profile, JKR spelled it Asteria on the Weasley Family Tree so that's how I spell it.
Rose gaped at him, her spoon frozen in the air, dripping soup onto her blouse.
"I could probably nick it from my grandfather's study if you want." He passed her a napkin. "Just return it in one piece, yeah? It's been in the family for centuries."
She flushed crimson. "That would be brilliant! But wouldn't your grandfather notice it was gone?"
"I could tell him I'm using it."
Scorpius imagined telling his grandfather he wanted to borrow his out-of-print edition of Tales of Beedle the Bard for his Muggle Studies paper on the portrayal of Muggles in wizarding literature.
"I could lie," he amended. "Though it'll have to be a swap. I need to look at a modern edition of Beedle the Bard and they've all been checked out the library."
"You don't have a copy?"
Scorpius shook his head. "My mum never cared for the stories and my dad wasn't allowed to read anything that portrayed Muggles in a positive light."
Rose set her spoon down roughly, causing soup to splash onto the table.
"Next time maybe you should forgo the spoon and try drinking it from a mug. Or a sippy cup," he said, as she waved her wand over the mess.
"Are you serious?"
"Well, it's either that or I'm putting up a Shield Charm--"
"About the Muggle thing."
"Oh. Yeah. All things considered that really a surprise?" Rose was one of the few people to whom he had told everything he knew about his dad's past.
"No," she admitted. "But nothing, nothing?"
"Nothing. No Martin Miggs, the Mad Muggle comics, no Muggle books, no Muggle music – nothing."
"Was he not allowed to listen to any music because all music is basically Muggle--"
"Nothing within the past one-hundred years or so. Anything newer was subversive." Scorpius snorted. "My dad couldn't go to a Brothers Grimm concert when he was thirteen, couldn't even have the albums. Though he does now."
The elder Malfoy had developed a passion for most Muggle-inspired music and even Muggle music including his wife's extensive jazz collection. Draco would never admit to it though, telling Scorpius that his mum had left her records playing when he caught his dad listening to them.
(Remembering how his dad's face had contorted into a rictus of horror when he'd overheard Scorpius' Fine Young Mudbloodz album, he knew that fondness for Muggle music didn't extend that far.)
"Funny though, isn't it?" Rose mused, breaking the silence. "Thanks to that book, your grandfather's fanaticism is going to give us a leg up on our Muggle Studies' essays!"
