One Wing
"There are rules in this house, young man."
Kalas crossed his arms over his chest. "You don't vandalize and steal from Gerda's shop with your friends when she has been nothing but kind to our family."
"I know," Kastor looked down. "I know it was wrong, and I shouldn't have done it, but I had to do it to prove myself to the guys."
"How could you even fall in with a crowd like that, Kastor? You're the crown Prince of Wazn, you know you set an example for the people and the country. You're mother and I provide you with a home and we feed you, and this is how you repay us?"
It was terrifying to see his own son turn out more and more like himself each day.
"Well, maybe I don't want to be tide to all this…!" He gestured around the paintings of the old kings and queens of Wazn. "Don't you think there's more to life than all the stuff at court?"
Kalas' eyes widen. "How could you even say that, you should be proud of your lineage…!"
It was more than Kalas could have ever gotten. "Your mother's house is a proud house to be a part of. They kept the ocean safe for generations-"
Kastor raised his hand. "Yeah, yeah, I've heard it a million times before. You, mom and a bunch of your other friends got together, saved the world from the Wicked God, Malpercio and brought the lands and the ocean back. Anything else new?"
"Kastor, I don't think you give the respect of the history of the world and the kingdom it deserves."
"The respect… Dad, don't you know what it's like? Being compared to you? People come up to me and say 'oh, you're the saviour's son, you're going to do great things yourself'. Do you know what the kids at school tell me? 'Oh, what are you going to save next, saviour boy?' 'Don't you always get a free pass 'cus your parents saved the world?' When people see me, all they see is you…!"
The king consort froze.
'Hey one wing…! You born failure!'
"You have no idea what it's like to be me… Do you?"
