"Hey, you ok there freckles?"
They had just set up camp, sawyer collected wood and john and jack got something to eat, but Kate was being far more distance than usual, and sawyer was the first to notice.
"Yeah…"Kate paused "No" she whispered.
Sawyer felt uncomfortable, he was usually the one the girls would cry about, not to.
As the tears continued to well up in Kate's eyes Sawyer walked over and put his arm around her. Kate was also feeling uncomfortable. She never showed much emotion, let alone break down into tears, but she soon relaxed and rested her head on sawyer's chest, Nothing was said but nothing needed to be.
After a while Kate stopped crying, but she didn't want to move, she felt safe in sawyer's arm, safe for the first time in a long time. By this time john and jack were making there was back and could heard arguing in the distance. "Can we go for a walk?" Whispered Kate, hoping Sawyer would agree. Sawyer nodded his head and they both stood up.
"I thought he was going to let me die," Kate said, sadness coating her words.
"So did I." not much over a whisper responded Sawyer, "I wouldn't have let you die freckles." He insisted.
"I know" she agreed.
They came to a small clearing in the jungle were Sawyer had been collecting wood only minutes ago. They both sat with their backs resting on the trunk of a large tree. Not touching each other, but close enough to feel each others warmth.
"Thank you."
"What for?" Sawyer asked.
"For not being like jack"
Sawyer chuckled. "Any day………….in fact everyday."
Kate once again leaned her head on sawyer's chest, closing her eyes and listening to his steady breathing.
Once Sawyer thought she was asleep, he picked her up and headed back to were they had made camp, nit wanting to get separated from the others, but also not wanting Kate to wake up.
"I love you kate." Sawyer whispered, just before he reached the camp.
Kate stirred in her sleep. "I love you too sawyer, always have." She was sound asleep before Sawyer could respond.
When they returned to the camp, he ley Kate down and kissed her on the forehead, lying next to her and keeping her warm, getting weird looks form both of the other men, but he didn't care. He thought he was going to loose her today, and he wasn't letting that happen again.
