Artemis walks through the hallways of the house slowly, keeping a sharp eye out for her target.
She remembers just a few hours ago, her mother was telling her about how upset Apollo was and she did not know why. Determined to find out, she went to Apollo's room and saw him sitting on the edge of his bed, crying.
"Apollo? What is wrong?" she asks him worriedly as she sits beside him. She hugs him to her, and he returns it, burying his face into her shoulder and wetting it with his tears.
Just then, Apollo whispers, "The woman who is carrying my son has bedded another man."
"WHAT?" Artemis exclaims. Shock and anger took over then as she pulled her brother away from her and held him at arms' length.
"WHO IS IT, APOLLO? TELL ME!" she demands.
He wipes away his tears and mutters, "Her name is Coronis."
"I WILL MURDER HER! I WILL DESTROY HER FOR BREAKING YOUR HEART! HOW DARE SHE BED A MORTAL WHEN SHE IS PREGNANT WITH THE CHILD OF A GOD!"
She stomps out of his room then, unable to wait to get the job done. Just as she exits, she could hear Apollo say, "Thank you, sister."
Artemis had thrown open the doors to the house of Coronis simply with one hand. Coronis, at seeing the angry goddess, fled away deeper into the house, afraid to face her wrath. Artemis shot an arrow at her, but it had missed.
Even though she was pregnant with Apollo's son, Coronis slept with a man named Ischys, and did not feel regret for it. But now, knowing that Apollo's sister is after her, she started to pray to him for forgiveness and begged him to stop her. Apollo had heard her pleas, but turned a deaf ear towards them.
Artemis climbed up the stairs slowly, looking out for the blasted mortal. Coronis was hiding in a room full of pottery, hiding behind several big pithoi. She bit the knuckles on her right hand, attempting to quieten down her whimpers of fear, while her other hand held her pregnant belly.
Just then, she hears the door open slowly and the creaking of footsteps. Feeling her fear reach its maximum, she trembled and even wets herself.
Suddenly, the pithoi she was hiding behind suddenly breaks into many pieces. She cries out in fear and watches as the other pithoses break down and reveal the goddess who was walking towards her with a loaded bow in her hands that was aimed at her. The anger on her face was terrifying.
"Please! I'm sorry! Don't kill me! Please!" she cried and pleaded.
Artemis, unmoved by her begging and her tears, mutter, "This is for breaking my brother's heart."
And she shoots Coronis directly at her heart, ending her life once and for all.
Artemis stood by Apollo's side as he watches Coronis' funeral pyre. He could feel his son, still miraculously very much alive in her womb.
Unable to bear the thought of letting the baby burn, Apollo orders for Hermes to retrieve his son, who he had named Asclepius, by cutting open Coronis' belly and send it to the centaur, Chiron, to raise. Hermes did as he was told and then collects Coronis' soul to send it to the Underworld.
In the Underworld, Coronis stood fearfully before the feared Hades, who sentences her to Tartarus, for her crime of cheating on a god was too great.
And she still dwells there now, paying for her grave mistake.
