Elphaba was overly-busy and swallowed up in her studies. Over tasking to an extreme, Elphaba held in one hand, an apple, which she periodically bit out of, while in the other hand, she grasped a quill, that scribbled random notes on four different sheets of paper, gotten from four different books. Her eyes never left the books, but interchanged between the four volumes, causing her eyes to cross randomly. This irritated Elphaba, but she dared not stop and go on hopelessly about it; it would throw her off and then she would have to find her spot(s) again. She wouldn't have that.
Just when Elphaba thought she would pop from exasperation, Galinda decided to make her grand entrance. She hopped in on tiny pink heels and scurried over to Elphaba, quickly sitting herself on the green girl's lap.
Elphaba, already frustrated, cleared her throat, while Galinda happily made herself comfortable, positioning her skinny self on Elphaba snuggly.
"Miss Galinda, I don't need this monkey business now," Elphie said. And she attempted to shove Galinda off.
Galinda simply smiled sweetly and snuggled closer, laying her blonde curls on Elphaba's shoulder. She sighed. Elphaba curled up her lip in disgust and tried—as it seemed—to wipe off the blonde as if she were a pesky germ. "Why won't you let me be?"
"Because…" Galinda murmured innocently, "I'm trying to prove a point."
"And what would that be?" Elphaba asked, putting down her feather pen and using both arms to try to move the other girl. But Galinda was surprisingly strong, to add to her determination, and she didn't budge.
"Well," Galinda started, positioning herself on Elphaba so she could look at her, "I was talking with Misses Shenshen and Pfannee and out of absolutely nowhere they started to talk—gossip, if you will, about you, Miss Elphaba! It was absurdly rude and I was shocked to say the least!" Elphaba rolled her eyes. "They were saying how… since you're so bony and scrawny—they said it, don't look at me like that—you'll never have a man cuddle you! They were definitely not being very polite about the matter. And, since I'm your good friend, I decided to defend you—"
"Oh, you're so goodly—"
"So I said I was sure you could be cuddly if you wanted. And here we are!" Galinda gave a little bounce on Elphie's lap and Elphaba almost doubled over in pain, but couldn't due to her little blonde pet. "Sorry."
"So you're trying to prove me cuddly by sitting on me?" Elphie asked, finally composing herself once more.
"What better way?" Galinda asked, her eyes giving off a naïve light. "My opinion is as good as any man's."
Elphaba raised an eyebrow, almost scared when Galinda cuddled closer and shoved her face into her dark hair. "Your hair smells nice, Elphie," Galinda muttered.
Then, Elphaba finally succeeded in ridding herself of Galinda. Galinda looked annoyed to have been pushed off, but shook herself and regained her dignity and perkiness. "Guess what, Elphaba?"
Elphaba mumbled to acknowledge Galinda's existence, but was entranced by the text.
"I was right, I was! You were certainly most comfortable!"
"That's nice to know. Now, all we have to do is find someone who won't freak out once seeing they have their head in the crook of a green woman's shoulder."
Galinda's smiled faded. She trotted over to Elphaba once more and grabbed her head between her hands, forcing the girl to look at her. "Elphie… trust me. You'll find someone who'll love you for you and look past the skin." Galinda's eyes shone with a maturity Elphaba had never seen there before. The blonde gave Elphaba a quick and light kiss and hugged her. "I promise." Then, smiling as before, Galinda exited the room, humming some song or other, and Elphaba continued to work. The green girl doubted the blonde's words, but all the same, hoped her right.
