Roll and Rockman are two Net Navis who were secretly in love with each other for a very, very long time. However, in fear of the other's rejection, none of them had enough courage to speak out their feelings. After a while, the heart inside Roll's chest was not capable of holding her strong emotions towards the male Navi for much longer. To this, a system collapse ensued and she had a breakdown. All this happened so suddenly, and Roll never got the chance to reveal her feelings towards Rockman, and to find out that the blue Navi had loved her in return all along. Yuuichiro Hikari, Netto and Rockman's father, was able to fix Roll to some extent, but there was a catch. She was not able to remember anything or anyone for now, especially her beloved. With time, a lot of patience and care, will Roll be able to remember of her feelings towards her dearest? But not everything is sweet and lovely, since there is an entity that seeks revenge on the main blue character more than anything in the world...

AN: MnH: I began writing this fanfic with the inspiration of "Chobits" by CLAMP. The main fact here is that Roll loses her memory, but might be able to remember everything in the end, not like Chobits, whereas Chii does not. Let's see how Rockman is going to react to the knowledge of his sweetheart's much expected recovery.
Medi: As per request of the main author, I will be continuing the fanfiction starting from chapter 18, where an explanation is provided. I hope you'll enjoy.
Disclaimer: None of the characters from the Anime/Game Rockman EXE is owned by either of us. Rockman, Roll and everyone else is owned by CapCom. Blitz, Sol, Terraman and Kald were characters created by Mizu no Hana only for the sole purpose of this fanfiction's entertainment.

Prologue
"… So, Medi-san?" Rockman asked, even though he somehow already knew the answer. "… How's Roll doing?"
The female medic Navi sighed deeply with a stern expression before responding.
"There's no easy way to go about this, Rockman, so I'll just say it and done." Medi breathed. "Roll's sick. And you know what happens when Navis are this sick, don't you?" she asked, feeling bad for her pink friend, whom she couldn't do much more to help.
Rockman shrugged and looked away. He knew Roll was ill, he knew she was getting sick, but he never expected her to become this afflicted. His eyes then meet the ground. The blue bomber wanted to help Roll, he really did, but he didn't know what to do. Everything had been going just fine between them. The two Navis couldn't be better friends, but when Rockman decided to finally confess his feelings towards the pink Navi… His world quavered and came crashing down on him, breaking into millions of Data bits. Rockman didn't want to lose Roll; it had taken him so long to find that she might love him back… It took him eight long years to finally realize of his feelings towards her, and to suspect that Roll held the same emotions towards him. Rockman couldn't shake out of his head the fact that his sweetheart, his dearest Roll, the net Navi he cared for this much, had gotten sick because of him. The female Navi's condition was triggered by her heart, as previously explained by his father. In short, Roll's bottled emotions weren't able to remain locked any longer inside her chest. The feelings were simply too great, and both her heart and CPU were too overcharged to process them. And it was far too late to confess now, as the damage had already been done and it would only leave Roll in more pain if he did. Painstakingly, Rockman could still remember when this all started; when Roll's… 'illness' began.
-Flashback-
Four days ago...
"Hey there, Roll-chan!" Rockman greeted with a wave of his arm.
"Hi, Rockman…" Roll meekly waved back.
The blue Navi's smile vanished when he noticed that there was something different about the pink one, something that seemed to be wrong. Her green eyes had a different tone to them; it was a… was it an expression of sadness? Yes, it was. Roll portrayed the saddest tenor in her eyes that it tore Rockman's heart into two. His own expression shifted into a concerned one when he noticed that her eyes also had an almost dull color; and that her cheeks were looking quite reddish. Was she sick, maybe? No, that couldn't be it. Not his Roll-chan, always so happy and cheerful and full of life. Why would she ever be sick like this? A bug in her systems?
"Roll-chan, are you ok? You don't look so good." he asked, worry in his voice.
But she didn't reply. Her sad gaze was just looking forward, idly, and she looked as if she wasn't even there with him. Rockman took one step forward, more concerned than ever, getting closer to the female Navi. As he was about to talk again, Roll finally spoke up.
"R… Rockman…" she called. Her voice sounded different, though. It was as if she was… weak.
The blue Navi's apprehensive expression deepened as the girl suddenly lost her balance and nearly fell. Rockman dashed over to her right away, and held her in a firm embrace so she wouldn't reach the ground.
"R-Roll-chan!?" he called out, almost panicking. He felt his blood pressure going faster as he was getting more nervous.
"R… R-Rock… m-man…" Roll called out weakly to the air as he felt her slowly fading away into unconsciousness.
-End flashback-
"R-Rockman…?" a voice broke through his thoughts; it was Roll's small voice.
The blue bomber snapped back to the reality that instant and he held the girl's left hand with his both and sat in a chair next to her. Roll was laying on one of the many stretchers at one of Sci Lab's maintenance rooms. She had been there for a few days already and everyone was starting to get anxious with the situation. Rockman's father, the main head of the Hikari, was doing everything in his power to fix Roll, but it wasn't an easy task, because her heart kept on getting worse every day. It didn't matter how many times he did a system check on her CPU, or how many times he tried rearranging her programs. The only viable solution to permanently fix everything was to make a massive reboot on all of Roll's systems, but that would mean all of Roll's memories and feelings would have to depart her form. Rockman couldn't handle the fact that his beloved's memories and feelings would be taken away from her at some point. He just couldn't. He didn't want to lose this Roll, but… He knew that the Navi was in deep suffering from her ailment. She had tried to be discreet and quiet about it for a very long time, but in the end… The only way to relieve the pink Navi from her agony was the worst thing anyone could ever think of doing.
"H-Hey there, Roll-chan." Rockman tried to sound calm but his voice faltered; it was easy to see that he was almost crying. "How are you feeling today?" he asked, his holding tightening slightly.
"H… Heavy…" the pink one breathed out, her gaze not really shifting anywhere. "… When… can I go home, Rockman?"
"Not so fast there, Roll." Medi said as she stepped into the room and walked over to the couple. "You still need to stay here some more time for observation."
"But for how long…?" Roll asked with a faltering voice. It was clear that she was also tired of lying around all day.
"I'm not sure about that, a few days, at best." Medi replied with a sadder tone. "Just relax and try and take it easy. I'm positive you're going to be just fine, so keep on smiling, okay?"
She smiled softly to her pink friend; maybe that would help a little. Roll gave her medic friend a feeble smile back and nodded slowly. As she turned back to address Rockman, Medi slid away from the room to go talk with Mr. Hikari to report the situation.
"Rockman…" she tried to gaze at him with her weak expression, but couldn't see all that much anymore. "I… I want to go home… I don't want to stay here. I-"
She would have said more, but could already feel herself getting fully exhausted, with both her condition and the dire situation that she was putting everybody in. Rockman then stood up and attempted to calm her down, since it was the only thing he could do at the moment.
"Hey, hey, Roll-chan, easy." he pulled his left hand up to her right cheek and stroke it gently. Smiling softly to her, he realized it was all he could do. "Take it easy, okay? You're going to be fine."
The pink Navi's eyes became watery and her tears soon ran down her cheeks, some of them dampening his palm, though Rockman wasn't bothered about it one bit, since he was too worried about her. He moved and sat again over his chair and Roll, with a weak gesture, leaned her face towards his hand, the one that was holding her cheek, and another sad expression filled her, now dull, green eyes as she tried to look at him again.
"Rockman, I'm… scared…" she said in a whisper. "M-My heart hurts so much… I can't move… I'm afraid I'll-" she was interrupted then.
"Hey, please don't talk like that, Roll-chan…" Rockman tried to calm her down again, but even he didn't know what to do.
Roll couldn't speak very well anymore. She wasn't able to stand on her own feet anymore. Her eyesight was starting to go as well, and she knew what was going to happen to her, and even though she didn't want to acknowledge it right now, it killed her of the inevitable fate that was waiting for her. He knew of this as well, very well in fact, but neither wanted to accept the situation…
"… Your father has been doing his best… to fix me, but… It's no use, I… I'm not getting any better…" Roll affirmed between breaths. Her fate was slowly getting wedged within her mind. "I won't get any better…"
"Please don't talk like that, Roll-chan…" the blue Navi shrugged and looked to the side.
He nearly broke into tears again. He couldn't stand the fact that Roll would forget about him. About everything they went through. She would forget the good moments they shared, as well as the bad. She would forget the group, her friends, Rush, everything. He couldn't agree to it. He refused to. Listening to his muffled sobs, Roll's heart seemed to break further. She didn't want his last memory of her to be such a sad one, so she mustered all her remaining strength for one final gesture of kindness.
"I'll be alright... It's going to be okay, so… please don't worry, Rockman..."
With that, she smiled that warm smile she always did to him one last time before she closed her eyes for good.
