Disappearance

"Kurt," Ami called out as she entered the apartment. "I'm home."

She got no response.

"Kurt?"

Still nothing, which worried her. She checked the table where they normally left notes for each other, but there was none.

"Kurt?" She tried again.

Nerves mounting, she walked towards the baby's room, afraid of what she might find. When she found the room empty she grew scared.

It wasn't like Kurt to just disappear without letting her know, especially if Leyna was with him. Ami had been very reluctant to go back to work and the one thing that finally convinced her was Kurt's promise to come straight home after class. As much as she adored the residents of the mansion, she didn't feel right leaving her baby with others just yet and Kurt knew that. He was supposed to be there.

"Kurt!" She yelled, panic entering her voice.

Her heart dropped when she saw that the sliding door to their balcony was ajar. With a million possible situations in her head, Ami ran to the door and yanked it open.

"Oh, hello Ami. I didn't know you were home."

She looked up to see Kurt hanging from a beam in the balcony's ceiling, Leyna in his arms.

"What the hell? I was practically screaming for you! I was scared shitless!"

"Scared? What for?"

"Oh, maybe I was worried something had happened to you and Leyna. You know, nothing big." She was fuming.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were going to be so upset. I just thought we'd come outside for a little while that's all."

Ami was about to reply when she realized something. "Kurt, should you be hanging Leyna upside down like that?" She asked in an amazingly calm voice.

"I don't see why not."

"Well…" As she spoke her voice lost it's calm. "Perhaps all the blood will rush to her head and it will explode!"

Kurt's eyes grew wide and he thought it would be best to just join her on the ground. With a graceful flip he was in front of his wife.

"Ami," he said softy. "You must not forget that Leyna is a mutant. Not only that, but she is a mutant like myself, and…" He wasn't sure how to phrase the next part. Finally he just said it. "I've never had my head explode."

Ami realized she was acting irrationally, and she was staring to feel very foolish. "I know, but… well she's just a baby and I worry about these things. And you have to remember that I'm not a mutant so I'm really in the dark a lot of the time."

Kurt nodded. It was easy to forget that Ami knew nothing of things that he had come to take for granted.

She took Leyna from her husband's arms and carried her into the living room. Sitting on the couch she gently rocked the sleeping baby back and forth. Though she was no longer upset with Kurt, a new and troublesome thought sprang to her mind.

"Kurt," Ami called towards the balcony. "How old were you when you learned to teleport?"
