"You don't understand!" screamed Korra into the night, the waves below becoming ever ferocious. "The world doesn't need the Avatar anymore!"
She clenched her fists and snapped away from Mako, not wanting him to see that she was in tears.
Mako stepped forward and placed a hand on her trembling shoulders but she pulled away as if burned. Hurt, he turned his gaze towards the glimmering city but did not pay attention to it's majestic beauty for he have seen it far too many times.
"Maybe you're right...maybe the world doesn't need the Avatar anymore..."
Korra's slumped in defeat but jumped when she felt Mako's arms snaking around her waist. She looked up at him questionably but he hid his face on her shoulder, his hair tickling the back of her neck.
"But there is one thing I'm sure the world will always need no matter what..." he whispered to her ear.
Breathing heavily, she asked, "And...what would that be?"
A slight breeze coming from the bay blew past them silently but neither paid attention to it's cold and gentle caress.
"A hero..."
Mako soon moved to face her, placing himself between her legs as she hopped on the rock behind her.
"A hero they can believe in..."
His lips came closer to her neck and Korra felt the tip of his finger trailing down from her throat to where her heart was.
"A hero...to give them hope."
Korra's breath hitched as he placed his ear on her chest, listening at her heartbeat. It was a habit he had developed after a near-fatal incident that nearly cost Korra her life.
"And I need you. Not the Avatar...," He slowly looked up and smiled, "...just Korra of the Southern Water Tribe."
