Rain
Lightning streaked across the sky, blotting out the stars for half a heartbeat as thunder rumbled shortly after. She counted the seconds it took for the thunder to follow the lightning. It has become a habit of hers ever since that evening. For her, the rain brings about conflicting feelings. Everything bad that has ever happened to me happened on a rainy day. She mused. But the rain isn't all that bad. If it wasn't for the rain, the good stuff wouldn't have happened too. She reflected on her life thus far. If someone heard her at that instance, they would probably think she is an old woman thinking back on her heydays. True to her estimation, the rain started pouring. I never liked mathematics. Neither did I know how useful it is if it weren't for you.
-Flashback-
She was about to crush the flower in her hand when a melodic voice stopped her.
"Don't do that."
Her hand paused in its action as she turned around to find the owner of the voice.
"Beautiful flowers should be loved. Since it's doing its best to bloom during its short life."
The owner of the voice reached over and took the flower out of her hand. She found herself uncharacteristically at a loss of words. Even for the ice princess, seeing the famed Fujino Shizuru up front and personal was a little disconcerting.
"I'm Fujino Shizuru. Nice to meet you."
"I know who you are." Ha! Take that miss popular.
Lightning flashed and thunder rumbled.
"Ara, if Natsuki doesn't get going soon, she is going to be caught in the rain."
"What rain? It's still so sunny. And how did you know my name?" the fact that she knows her name caught her by surprise. How did she find out?
"That is for me to know and for you to find out. Now, Natsuki should get going in about 2 minutes before she gets wet."
"I don't care" she stubbornly refuses to leave, just out to prove the infuriating person wrong. Who does she think she is to tell me what to do?
True to her words, the rain starts falling approximately 2 minutes later. How did she…why am I not wet? She looked up to find an umbrella over her head.
"Didn't I told Natsuki that the rain is coming?"
"Know it all" she grumbled under her breath while the other started smiling.
-End of flashback-
That was the beginning of our friendship wasn't it? She sat at the window and watched the rain. As her eyes follow the path of the raindrops, she felt a dull ache in her chest. Why is it that I am feeling like this? Shizuru…A pang echoed in her heart. Shizuru. Yet another pang resounded in her. Are you looking at the same sky as I am?
-Kyoto, Japan-
A long, slender finger reached out to turn the page of the newspaper. 95% chance of precipitation tonight. I wonder when – Before she could even complete her thoughts, lightning streaked across the sky as thunder rumbled closely behind. A small but sad smile played on her lips.
"Natuski…"
The name was whispered under her breath as the first drop of rain fell.
