I walked down the street to the liquor store, my father sitting next to me. He told me about the many things that needed done at home. Although I knew he was rambling. He was already half drunk, and had put down 3 bottles of liquor that morning. As we entered the store, my dad signaled me to grab a bottle of liquid. I grab the liquor, took it up to the checkout counter and handed it to the clerk, to which replied with a selection of words "you're not under 21. "I'm buying for my father." I pointed to my dad standing beside me. The clerk asked him for an ID. My dad showed the clerk his ID. The clerk than rang up his total. He was so trashed he couldn't even pay himself. I grabbed the money from his wallet and paid for him. I helped him out the door and back down the street to our apartment. I put the key into the lock and opened the door. Upon entering my younger brother Johnny greeted me. " I see you're helping the drunk again." Our father retaliated by saying " you listen here boy!" "I put a roof over your heads and living with me is better than living with that whore of a mother." My brother retaliated by saying "you're a drunken piece of shit who should've never had kids." Our father than lashed out at my brother attacking him. My brother screamed out in pain. The sight was horrifying to look at. I quickly pulled my brother up off the floor I took him to the bedroom we shared and I called the police and the ambulance. They were there. Within a half an hour. When they arrived I could hear them struggling to get to get to us. After I called out, they pushed their way through and got to our room. My brother was rushed to the hospital. The police took my statement , and my father was arrested. Two days later after my brother recovered from the beating my father had given him, we were both informed that we would be placed with our mother. The thought of being placed with her made my skin crawl, but I knew anything was better then being placed with that bastard. We spent the next two nights in a hotel before our mother started the trip out to get us. All I could think about was the way my brothers face looked, the years of abuse we had taken at the hands of that vile man. I didn't know if I would like what would come next but, one thing was certain for Johnny and I. There was something new brewing on the horizon and we had no idea what would be in store for us.
