"I can't make you love me if you don't, you can't make your heart feel something it won't"

The months of working with Sarek of Vulcan on a daily basis was taking a toll on Dr. Amanda Grayson. No, it wasn't that he was a perfectionist, totally logical in his approach with no empathy for a human lacking in perfection and logic. The problem was that against all odds she loved him.

There were times when she thought she saw humor or even affection in his eyes, but then they would be carefully shuttered showing only the very logical Vulcan Ambassador. They had begun to spend time together outside of their assigned duties logically to assist him to better understand the Humans and other races that he had to deal with.

The Universal Translator team including Amanda were celebrating the completion of the third phase of their project with a party at the home of Dr. Xavier Holland. Like most of their gatherings it was a chance to let off steam, let their hair down and just enjoy the diversity of the group. Ambassador Sarek's brother Selek, the Vulcan representative, was planning on attending and since guests were always welcome brought Sarek.

Selek and Sarek walked in just as Amanda was coerced into singing a twentieth century ballad - "I can't make you love me if you don't". The words never meant as much as they did as she sang. She could not seem to tear her eyes away from Sarek - "I can't make you love me if you don't, you can't make your heart feel something it won't".

When she had finished the room broke out in applause, she quickly left exiting into the garden. A moment later Sarek followed her out - "you are wrong, there is no need to force my "heart" feel this love you speak of it already does much as I have tried to make it not feel this emotion".
