Seeking Solace
Seeking Solace
How it happened remains unknown yet. Of course there were facts, but the mystery and misery remained despite them.
The facts were simple enough. Christine was gone. Dead. Raoul and Erik had been left behind. They still hated each other. They both mourned her passing deeply. The exact details of her demise didn't exist. They were stuck together to arrange her funeral.
Sometime in the days of arguing and being spiteful to each other, they stumbled upon and fulfilled Christine's silent last wish.
Somewhere along the line, they had poured out all of their hate all of their love, and all of their grief directed towards the world, each other, and Christine for dying.
The evening of the funeral that held over a thousand people to say farewell to their beloved Christine, found Raoul and Erik standing in an office with brandy glasses in hand once again.
"I don't think I've ever seen so many bloody people crying in one place." Erik remarked offhandedly. He had kept the white mask a memento of something Christine had once held in her hands, but he also had one made in the color of his skin which he wore.
Raoul having been efficiently distracted from his train of thought looked up from the swirling brandy and locked eyes with the former phantom, now his business partner in managing the opera house.
A silent understanding passed between them with no words spoken as the two men left behind embraced the other giving and receiving the solace so sorely needed to balm the wounds left in the wake of the last Daae.
The last wish of the late Christine Daae had finally been granted, allowing her soul to rest in peace. Raoul and Erik had accepted each other, and beyond her wildest hopes they became friends who found solace in each others company.
As they parted ways for the night, both were ready to live the way that their angel had wanted them to, and they would shed no more tears for her sake.
As her spirit faded into the bliss of oblivion she left one last thought to mark her prior existence.
Maybe dying wasn't so bad after all…
Originally, when I thought of this it was during the fifth duration of watching the more recent version of Phantom of the Opera. It was supposed to be a complete crack parody of Christine dying and Raoul and Erik both turning gay...I know what's wrong with me, right? Lots of things, but it was probably the sugar that made me come up with it. This is of the same theme, but a more plausible and serious version of it minus the actual part of them becoming gay...eventually I might rewrite this as the crack parody version...maybe not. Well hope you enjoyed.
