If Only
"Would you be only mine?" Arthur mused, half asking the sleeping figure he was standing at the bedside of, and unconsciously leaning over to focus his full attention better on the beautiful orange-honey blond male. "Just me? Would you let me hide you away where no one else could get at you?"
Arthur sighed. A melancholy sound from him at total odds with the perfection he saw in Mathew's kind soul.
"Knowing you, of course you would likely smile politely, apologetically, truly frozen in fear and uncomfortable. Then pretend sadness would fill your sweet voice as you would shake your head and say 'No. No, thank you.' Maybe you would also give some random excuse you might have thought up on the spot to make me feel less horrible than the awful manipulator I truly am. If only that weren't your true feelings. If only I hadn't seen through that fake mask, thereby shattering it and my illusions along with it. If only... but, no matter. There's no use wishing and straining to focus on the first star that appears to me each night, for something that won't happen. So I will simply need to make it true myself."
Arthur reached down, and keeping a tight hold on the magic making Mathew sleep, he added a new spell that would take effect as soon as he awoke. And that would stay in effect from then after. Nothing he could think of would be able to break the spell then.
He'd made certain of it.
He'd even asked his close friend Norway, who'd done a similar spell before on his love. He would just make certain that he wouldn't do the same as Lukas had and become bored of being followed around by his love after just a few centuries. No, he relished the thought of Mathew being with him forevermore for millennia on end. It wasn't like they could really die, and so why not spend that time together? He knew that he would never become bored with Mathew. He was his everything now, and that would stay that way as far as he could tell.
"I almost feel bad for that Prussia git. These two really did make a cute couple, but I wasn't the most feared captain of the seven seas for nothing. I have pined away for too long, and I never was very good at keeping myself from not taking what I wanted. Truly, it's a wonder I even lasted fourty years hoping and waiting like this...with you rejecting me with every advance I made." Arthur felt the magic and the protection and strengthening spells he'd solidified it with firmly take hold, and grinned a poisonous shark-like grin. "Well, Sleeping Beauty, are you ready to awaken with a kiss?"
After all, how else would a love spell be sealed?
