Chapter 1:
The Sleeping Beauty
It was a Sunday, and I was sleeping in. But, that did not last for long. My brother, Abdullah, who was 7 years old, started jumping on me. "Quit it. It's only 8:30!" I mumbled in my sleep. Surprisingly, he left me alone. Suddenly, my phone started vibrating. It was my best friend, Alyshba. My mom hates it when I use my phone in bed. So, I texted her, that I would talk later, then I went back to sleep.
When I woke up, it was 12:45! I had slept for 4 hours! I quickly got out of bed, changed my clothes, brushed my teeth, washed my face, and went downstairs, for breakfast. My dad had gone to work. It was a snow day, so I didn't have school. "Good morning, Sleeping Beauty.", my mom said,"You sure slept in today, eh Mariam?" she added. "Yeah. That's what I was planning to do. You know, since there isn't any school today." I replied.
After breakfast, I went upstairs, to check if I got any more messages, or missed calls from Alyshba. Turns out she wasn't the only one calling me. I got messages from my friends, Leila, Ayesha and Iman. In total, I had 152 messages! Turns out, we're meeting at the mall at 3:30. I had an hour and a half. I asked my mom if I could go. She said yes. Alyshba was going to pick me up.
At 3:20, I made sure I had everything in my purse- my phone, wallet, with my money and credit card, my mini make-up kit, a little bag of coins, my mini notepad, and pen. I was all set to go. Oh! I forgot! My gum pack, I thought. I quickly went to my drawer, and got out my mew pack of gum. I also had a couple boxes of mints in my purse. "Mariam! Alyshba is here!" my mom called. "I'm coming!" I replied. As I am a Muslim, wherever I go, outside of my home, I must where a head covering, called a hijab. So, I quickly put on my favorite, pink and black one, and left.
