Fred lay in the utter darkness (save for the hazy purple splotches of the starry sky in the window), eyes wide open.
He could hear his twin George and older brother Percy snoring; he was the only one awake. Suddenly Fred heard a whimper to his left, which was George. Fred reached for his wand on the night table and whispered, "Lumos!" Holding the light-tipped wand over George's face, Fred's eyes got even wider as he saw thin streams pouring down his twin's cheeks, glistening in the wand-light; George's nose as red as that reindeer named Rudolph in that Muggle story the family had read once.
"George, Georgie, wake up, wake up!" Fred whispered, shaking George by the shoulders, and George's eyes flew wide open.
"What were you dreaming about?" Fred asked.
Silence.
"Come on, Georgie, dearest brother of mine, you can tell me anything!" Fred pleaded.
George broke down into tears again and wrapped his arms around Fred's neck, burying his head into his chest. "Y-you were d-dead because w-we were at the b-battle and I had p-pointed the Killing Curse at t-the wrong person a-and that person w-was you," he sobbed. "A-and can you turn the light off?"
"Another nightmare about my almost-death?" Fred asked. George nodded. "I promise I'll try not to die, I promise. Nox!"
George pulled back in horror. "NO!" he cried, clutching Fred harder. "NO! NO! NO! Trying isn't enough, Freddie. Promise not to die without my permission! Promise that if you die, I'll die too!" George sobbed uncontrollably, tears making marks in Fred's shirt. Fred pulled George even closer and rubbed his back.
"Fred? George?" Percy's voice asked, coming from Fred's right. "What's going on?" (Percy was sleeping in the twins' bed because he had given up his room to Harry Potter; the Weasleys had invited Harry and Hermione Granger to stay with them after the war. The twins were the first to forgive Percy with open arms, and they'd grown closer quickly.)
Fred turned to his right and lit his wand again, holding it over Percy's face. "Oh, George had a bad dream," Fred explained. "He's just recovering from it. Hey-what's that on your face?" Percy's cheeks and nose were pinkish red, and his cheeks were damp. Tears now streaked Percy's cheeks.
"Oh, Perce, have you been crying also? Did you have another bad dream about Penelope ditching you?" Fred asked.
"No," Percy choked. "It was about you. You had died because of me and then everyone crowded around you and your ghost came out and asked me why I had caused your death and then I died too."
"Why did you die?" George inquired.
Percy hesitated. "I-I don't know. I think it was because everyone was so mad at me that I just killed myself."
"Blimey!" Fred exclaimed. "What dreams you guys had!" He held Percy and George close, into a group-cuddle, and kissed the tops of their heads. "I promise you guys that I'm not going anywhere, and that when you wake up in the morning, I'll be here."
And at the crack of sunlight, George and Percy woke up with their drool on Fred; they'd used him as a pillow, and breathed sighs of relief as they saw that Fred was still with them, asleep.
Hi guys! This is my first-ever fanfic on this site, so I'm pretty new to this; therefore, please do not flame. Constructive criticism allowed!
This is Luna, signing off.
UPDATE!
This is in response to the review. My first review! :D
Guest, it does take place after the Battle of Hogwarts. When George breaks down into tears, he mentions how, in his nightmare, they were at the battle. "the battle" always refers to the Battle of Hogwarts.
