A family sits having a barbecue.

FADE OVER TO a photograph of a male soldier on the mantel. Doorbell rings. FADE OVER TO a woman heading to the door. She answers it and men in uniform are standing there with a letter. CUT TO black.

WORDS
What would you do, if in one day
your future was changed forever?

FADE TO the woman dropping the opened letter and falling to her knees. The men in suits walk away. FADE TO an elderly woman walking over. She stares at the woman and puts a hand on her shoulder.

ELDERLY WOMAN
What's the matter, Sue?

CUT TO black.

SUE V/O
(Sad/Shocked)
Adam's dead…

MUSIC: "Slipped Away" by Avril Lavigne.
CREDITS. FADE TO Sue staring out her window at the pouring rain. FADE TO black.

Would you give up hope?

FADE TO Sue sitting in a corner she has a knife in front of her. Her hand reaches out to the knife. FADE TO black.

Or would you continue to hope?

FADE TO Sue retracting her hand. CUT TO Sue wandering her college grounds.

WOMAN V/O
She hasn't eaten for days, Mrs. Rain

CUT TO Sue studying in class solemnly.

WOMAN #2 V/O
(Desperate)
What would you have me do?

FADE TO Woman. She looks up.

WOMAN
She needs help…she needs to
come to terms with his death…

CUT TO black.

SUE V/O
He's not dead…

CUT TO Adam lying on a riverbank unconscious. A shadow towers over him. FADE TO Adam staring into a fire, a blanket is wrapped around him. The guy walks over and sits down. CLOSE UP of Adam.

GUY
Where do you come from?

CUT TO black.

ADAM V/O
I don't know…

CUT TO Sue crying in her bedroom. She mopes around depressed.

GUY V/O
You keep saying 'Sue' in your
sleep, who is she?

FLASHES of Sue and Adam spending time with each other.

ADAM
I wish I could remember…

CUT TO black.

WORDS
This summer…

CUT TO Sue running down the road. CUT TO Adam jumping out of the way of an explosion. CUT TO Sue staring at the stars. CUT TO Adam making his way through a jungle, he looks up at the stars.

ADAM V/O
I'm going to make it back!
I promised her I would!

FADE TO the college football stadium. Sue is on her knees crying as it rains. PAN OVER to Adam standing in the middle of the field with a military bag slung over his shoulder. FADE TO black.
