Disclaimer: I don't own anything but the plot.
Author Note: Wow, it has been a very long time since I posted an Inuyasha story, but once the idea popped into my head I could not ignore it. This story takes place after the battle with Naraku and really is just focuses on after the battle. It shouldn't take up much of your time and I hope that you enjoy!

She watched the rain fall silently from where she sat at the mouth of the cave, once bright blue eyes now dull showing no signs of the former happiness their owner once had. The stench of blood and miasma filled the air, seeming almost as thick as the fog that surrounded the once battlefield like a blanket. Had she been her usual self the smell would have caused her to shudder and feel the need to go help those that might still be alive, but now it only brought tears to her eyes for she knew well that no one out there was still alive, except herself and the cave's other occupant who watched her curiously from where he sat across from her.
His golden orbs watched her silently for what had seemed to him like hours, but had really only been minutes. This woman-child that had, only hours before, been so fearless in such a hard fought battle now sat before as a mere shell of her former self. Had he been anyone other than the Western Lord he would've said something to soothe her troubled mind, but there was naught he could say for being the warrior that he was comforting others was just not something he did. Though as he watched her he knew the no matter what he might have said had he been any other demon would not have eased her pain in the slightest. At any other moment in his long life these thoughts about this human onna would have caused him snarl mentally in disgust, but now after all that had occurred hours before he found that he had a deep respect for her.
"It's raining." She said suddenly in a voice so soft that had he been human he wouldn't have heard it. At her obvious statement he raised one eyebrow and said nothing for several moments.
"Indeed." At his response her lips tipped upwards in a very small smile before focusing her now dull blue eyes on him. In that moment it was like he truly saw her after the battle with her clothes torn and almost no longer existent save for the few straps of cloth that still managed to stay on her body and almost every inch of her skin covered in blood, some of which was her own. In that moment he almost said something more, but she beat him to it.
"It's so cold…" She breathed out, her as falling shut before her head slumped forward. His eyes widened briefly before returning to their normal ,expressionless, state as he rose to his feet. Stepping toward her now still frame, he removed his outer haori and placed it around her semi nude form in show of respect. Looking at her one final time before he left the cave, and this horrid place, he spoke softly to her in an gentle tone that seemed almost out of character for someone such as him.
"May your soul finally find peace, Kagome."

Author Note: Well I hope you enjoyed this little one-shot. I apologize for not giving much detail as to what had happened in the battle prior to this scene in the cave, but it just really did not seem to flow into the story and I am pretty sure you can figure out what happened to everyone else anyway. Tell me what you all thought of it in a review, whether or not it be positive or negative!
