(A/N- I decided to post this little fic to defeat writer's block, while I'm working on finishing one of my other published fics.)

Disclaimer: Of course I do not own these characters or anything related to Harry Potter.

In the Rain

The rain was pouring now. Earlier, before the students of Hogwarts traveled down to the little village of Hogsmeade, it had been just a slow drizzle. However, since the storm was over them, many of those students were retuning back to the castle. The marauders found shelter inside of The Three Broomsticks, drinking butterbeer to warm them up.
"Merlin, it's really coming down out there." James sighed. He was a bit upset after believing to see Lily Evans sitting in the pub, but upon entering she was not there.

"Cheer up Prongs. It could be worse. She could be at Madame Puddifoot's with Snape."

James shot him a dirty look. "Piss off Sirius."

"Hey, don't get your knickers in a twist. I was just joking."

"Yeah, whatever..." James said to his mug.

Remus shook his head. Poor James was lovesick and he knew just how he felt.

The person he was head over heels for was sitting across from him, not even aware of just how much he meant to him.

He glanced at Sirius and found him watching him. Remus blushed slightly and quickly looked away, taking a sip of butterbeer.

"Do you think she would really go out with Snape? I mean they are friends." Peter pointed out.

"Shut up Wormtail." James pouted.

"I don't think so. Snape can't get any girls let alone the beautiful Lily Evans." Sirius nudged his friend, trying to cheer him up.

James just groaned and guzzled the rest of his drink.

"Come on, let's get out of here." He threw on his cloak and stood up.

"Hey, I'm not finished! And nethier is Remus, or Peter for that matter." Sirius protested.

"Well, I'm leaving without you then." James said sourly and headed for the exit.

Peter downed the rest of his drink, spilling some upon his robes. "Hold up Prongs, I'm coming too!"

He rushed out, leaving only the other two boys behind.

"What a kiss arse." Sirius said waving him off.

Remus smiled. He couldn't help it. Being with Sirius, alone especially, was what he enjoyed doing most.

"So, what a fine day outside isn't it?"

A small giggle escaped his lips.

Sirius smiled at him and Remus felt as if he would melt. No one had ever made him feel so lighthearted and warm inside. Even just a simple smile or a quick glance in class was enough for his heart to skip a beat.

"I'm sure it will clear up soon." He said not really caring about whether the rain stopped or not, as long as he was here with Sirius, nothing really mattered right now.

Sirius sipped from his mug and Remus studied him. He loved way his long dark hair shined even when there was hardly any light to shine upon it. His gaze traveled to his eyes and he quivered. He felt weak whenever those gray eyes met his amber ones. And those lips, so perfect. What he wouldn't give just to taste them, to feel them upon his own.

"What?" Sirius' question broke his thoughts.

Oops, he'd been staring. He felt his cheeks burn as he shook his head. "Nothing."

Sirius smirked and finished the rest of the beverage in his cup. Remus finished his as well.

"Ready to venture out into the wetlands?"

Remus nodded and buttoned up his cloak. Together, they left the warm, dry shelter for the cold, wet outdoors. Before they stepped out from under the awning into the rain, Sirius grabbed Remus' hand.

"Hold on. You don't want to get your robes soaked." He performed a water repelling charm on the two of them.

"Thanks Padfoot." Remus grinned at him and was very much aware that their fingers were still intertwined.

Sirius smiled back at him and they stood like that for a moment before Sirius let go and they started toward Hogwarts, taking their time, neither in any hurry to get there.
