Danny steps out onto the lanai after a long day, beer in hand staring at the crashing of the waves. It hasn't always been this loud and the sun should be out still at this time, instead it's dark and pouring heavily.

Hawaii, to Danny, used to be this pineapple-infested hellhole, where everybody dressed like they never go to work and hang in the beach all day. Boy, he sure misses those times. Now, Hawaii is his home. His family. Chin, Kono, Rachel, Grace, and even Stan. And of course, Steve. His best friend, partner, and husband of five years.

It felt like just yesterday when Steve proposed to Danny in New Jersey, on vacation to introduce Steve to the Williams clan.

Five years later, he wishes he could say he felt as happy as he did that day. Danny wishes he could say life with Steven J. McGarrett was a perfect, peaceful one, but he can't. Danny Williams was never the man who could lie to others, let alone to himself.

Their relationship, granted, is of love. But, no relationship is perfect. There is still this fear of Steve being out there in combat as a SEAL, no longer with Danny, with Five-0. No one to hold him back, nobody to hold him and keep him safe. Danny's even lucky if he hears Steve's voice at least twice a month.

He wishes that Steve never got deployed and that Five-0 still had its fearless leader. But, of course, life isn't easy. Danny has to sit here after a long days of chasing after criminals, taking over his husband's job while he is away, not knowing if he's safe.

Danny thinks sometimes that he doesn't wanna know how Steve is doing. He doesn't want to hear about the stuff that goes on in the Navy and how much Steve's put into danger. Maybe if Danny doesn't know how many lives Steve has taken away or how many times Steve's life was put on the line, the fear and pain inside when Steve gets on that ship will lessen.

Yes, Danny Williams is a strong man. But, when it comes to the people he loves, that strength is replaced with fragility.
