title: two sides
character(s)/pairings: claire lyons
rating: k+
Claire Lyons looks at herself in the mirror and she doesn't know what's happened. She's changed. She's changed a lot. What used to be plain white jeans and a nice, albeit boring shirt is replaced with designer blue Levi's jeans and a Ralph Lauren red-pink shirt.
She's changed; and she's not sure whether she likes it.
She scrutinizes her appearance as she always does - but this time it isn't to check whether her hair's in place or whether she's remembered to zip up the fly of her pants.
It's to see whether there's still any of the old Claire left.
She can remember what it was like back at home - but this is her home now. At her old home, nobody cared about what you looked like or what car you went to school in; everyone wore their own comfortable (non-designer) clothes to school and most of the people Claire knew just used the bus.
A nice and simple life, that was what it used to be.
But now it's changed. Everything's changed. She doesn't know what the hell has happened, but all of a sudden it really does matter that the underwear isn't from Bodyglove, and that her makeup must be from Elizabeth Arden. If it isn't, she's weird; a social reject. Then Massie Block and her bitchy clique will come and get her, scratch her with their perfectly manicured nails and insult her to oblivion. Until she doesn't know who she is anymore.
But now, standing in front of the mirror in these gorgeous to-die-for clothes, she wonders if she does know who she is. Is she Claire Lyons from the place where she could wears her Keds without being embarrassed or is she Claire Lyons from Massie Block's infamous clique?
She bites her nails. Better to just accept whatever comes her way rather than question it.
