Once Upon A December
Sung to Once Upon A December from Anastasia's soundtrack
I'm not a huge Voyager watcher, but I've rather liked what I saw, especially in Seven's character. (If & when they bring Voyager home, she and Data would make quite a match...but I'll go into my hopes for "Trek 10" another time...) Anyway, I came across the "music video" format in another fanfic persuasion, and liked the idea so well I've been applying it to other shows/concepts I like. I did e-mail this one directly to Jules, but I realize it'd come up quicker by posting it. The way it works is, the line in parentheses is the action taking place during the line of the song above it.
"Once Upon A December" is track 3 of the "Anastasia" soundtrack, written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, copyright 1997 Twentieth-Century Fox. If you have the CD, cue it up and enjoy!
Once Upon A December
A Voyager Music Video
by Jennifer
(Seven of Nine walks through the darkened and empty Voyager lounge. Suddenly something on a table catches her eye...a music box someone has put there for decoration. Something about it seems to intrigue her. She picks it up and opens it. A tinkling waltz tune fills the lounge, as two intricately carved figurines whirl in waltz time before the mirrored lid. She stares, fascinated, as the music awakens memories she thought long dead...)
Dancing bears...
(Dancing teddy bears painted on a nursery wall)
Painted wings...
(A painting of a rainbow-colored Pegasus)
Things I almost remember...
(Close shot of Seven's eyes watching the figurines)
And a song someone sings...
Once upon a December.
(Mama Hansen holding four-year-old Annika, singing to her)
Someone holds me safe and warm...
(Mama hugs Annika as she dresses her for the party)
Horses prance through a silver storm...
(A carousel horse in a snow globe, with little Annika's face reflected in it)
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory...
(Back to Seven's face watching the dancing figurines. Pan around till we are watching the figurines from her point of view, reflected many times over in the mirrored lid. And...
...as the music and voices swell, the scene morphs into dozens of flesh-and-blood dancing couples, waltzing in the salon of the Hansen home.
Camera moves through the dancers till it reaches little Annika, in red velvet, smiling as she watches the dancers. Throughout all the following scenes in the past, there is always some sort of mirror nearby...in which we can see Seven as she is now, watching the scenes unfold.
We see Annika's father walking through the dancers towards his daughter, smiling)
Someone holds me safe and warm...
(Daddy picks Annika up, laughing)
Horses prance through a silver storm...
(Daddy holds her up to the window to see the sleigh riders outside in the blizzard)
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory...
(Daddy carries her through the dancing couples, some of whom look over to smile at her. They reach Mama, who kisses Annika's cheek)
Far away, long ago,
Glowing dim as an ember...
(Daddy holds Annika high above his head, spinning her around)
Things my heart used to know,
Things it years to remember...
(The scene morphs into Seven holding the music box high above her head, twirling around. She snaps out of it and brings it slowly back down to her eye level)
And a song someone sings...
(In the mirrored lid, she sees her younger self...laughing...then gone)
Once upon a December.
(Slowly, Seven puts the music box down and backs away from it. For some reason she cannot understand, her eyes are moist. As the music tinkles to a stop, we see Kathryn in the doorway over Seven's shoulder, watching.
Kathryn smiles gently. She understands.)
So...what'd'ya think?
