I was free to go. No longer under suspicion. I could leave if I wanted to and I did. Outside I had to squint, not used to such bright light after being inside for so long.
I spent the day doing nothing, wondering around, buying ice-cream. L crossed my mind a couple of times but I kept pushing them back. There was no reason for me to be thinking about him.
Arriving home I found the house empty, my mother and sister had left a note, informing me that they'd gone shopping and my father would still be at work. Suddenly I felt a pang of loneliness and wished I was still joined to L.
For a few seconds I stood still, shocked. I missed him. For a couple of hours I hadn't seen him and already I was missing him. That couldn't be right…and yet it was. Amazingly.
Dazed, I walked up to my room, flopping down onto the bed without turning on the light. Then I felt someone beside me. Jerking up I flipped on my lamp, to find L beside me, eyes squinting in the sudden light.
"Wha-."
"Sh. I missed you," he whispered, a hand coming up to stroke down my jaw.
"I missed you too."
