Prompt was: True Love is a Friendship Set on Fire.

It was the quiet moments when Kurt knew something was going on between them. Maybe moving in with Rachel when he had gotten to New York hadn't been the best of ideas if he hadn't wanted to fall in love with a girl, especially Rachel Berry at that. But… he wasn't going to complain.

He considered her for a moment, taking in everything that had happened over the past couple of years. There had been a lot of interesting developments in both their lives. Santana moving in for a while, Brody, Adam, the engagement, tattoos and tongue rings, the breaking of said engagement, Finn's near death, Funny Girl, the TV show dealing falling through, their friends moving to New York. At least they still had NYADA and the Diner. And he still had his internship.

When love had developed, he had no idea. There had been so much going on, it was a bit of a surprise when one morning he looked up at Rachel coming out from her side of the apartment and thought she never looked more beautiful. Granted, she had bed hair and was wearing an old pair of McKinley gym clothes as pajamas as she headed to the bathroom to pee.

Rachel had said for her it was when she had decided to take Kurt out for lunch for his birthday that made her sit up and notice they had become more than friends. Kurt was just there

She had taken him out to a great Indian restaurant and then went for a walk in a nearby park with ice cream. A Ferris wheel had loomed large over the park and they had decided to go for a ride. It happened when their car had reached the top and they had stalled for a few seconds. Rachel had grabbed for Kurt's hand, but Kurt instead ran his hand through her hair and kissed her.

Later that night when the group had Kurt a birthday party, they had nervously held hands. Surprisingly no one said a thing.

Kurt recrossed his legs and tried to focus on the script in front of him. Rachel was flipping the 25th anniversary issue of Marie Claire and not even paying attention to him. But up above her head on the wall was a handmade sign that Quinn had made for them when they had changed apartments. The rough hewn wood was polished and surrounded a beige plate with calligraphy that read: True Love is a Friendship Set on Fire.

It almost seemed appropriate. Maybe all they had needed a little air and spice for the sparks to fly. He laughed to himself at the thought and turned a page. Rachel looked up at the noise and smiled.
