Prompt was: Late Night Cuddling.
AN: This has become one of my faves. Hope you enjoy. :)
It had only been maybe a week since they had discussed doing the whole dating thing. It was a bit of a change, but then again, not really. It was different. Kind of a refreshing different. There was so much to consider though that it overwhelmed Kurt's thoughts whenever he had nothing else to focus on. Did early dating constitute hand holding, or was linking arms still acceptable? How would life in the apartment change? He never would have thought he'd be living with someone with only having dated them for a few days. Granted, they had been living together for years before being romantically attached.
Romantically attached to Rachel Berry. It still was a foreign concept.
Kurt walked through the door of their apartment and shut it tight before locking it. All he wanted to do was lay down in the softness of his bed and sleep. He dropped his bag, keys, and jacket on the couch and headed for his side of the curtained area. Rachel seemed to be asleep on her bed as he shed his shoes and clothes. Washing his face and brushing his teeth made him feel even more tired. He turned off the light in the bathroom and headed back to his bed. When he got there, he found Rachel sitting against his headboard.
"Hey," he said softly.
"Hey," she said sleepily. She yawned. "How was practice?"
"Good," said Kurt. "Everett finally got back from Europe. I think we can finally start working on the footwork next week."
"Great," she said. "You're going to love your first big musical production Kurt. It's so different."
"I know," he said with a smile. "I'm really starting to get to know everyone, you know?"
Rachel nodded, but she was obviously nodding off. Kurt could only shake his head and smile as he turned down the bed to get into it. But he couldn't just leave her there sitting up. Kurt had an idea as he pulled on the covers beneath Rachel.
"Come on," he said as he pulled on her arm and slid her down onto the sheets. Although bed co-habitation was somewhere around step ten (yes, they had come up with a dating 12 step program just so they'd have some sort of boundary), he figured it wouldn't hurt just this once.
Rachel said something inaudible, but pulling on her hand once more made her lay down. Kurt turned off the bedside lamp and got under the covers. He rolled his eyes when he realized Rachel hadn't even moved to do the same. It was sweet that she had woken up and wanted to see him. He propped up on his elbow to adjust the covers around her, but Rachel instead turned over and the next thing Kurt knew was that his roommate and best friend turned girlfriend had wrapped herself around his abdomen.
Yep, this was heading towards step 11. She looked so sweet like she was. Kurt sighed softly, wondering how he was going to do this. Should he move her and worry about waking her up? He definitely didn't want to put her in a panic that her actions were unwarranted. It wasn't like they weren't… it was just sudden. Kurt wasn't even sure he even had any inkling of the correct way to cuddle. Or if she had any preferences.
Not that it mattered at the moment, Rachel he was certain was pretty much dead asleep.
He had to admit, her body heat and weight on his torso felt nice. He gently moved her left arm and laid down, adjusting the pillow a little to get comfortable. There was something comforting about the trust and the security Rachel had in him, that she wanted him to hold her. He gently brushed his fingers through her hair with a sigh. Laying a kiss on her forehead, he smiled when her head drifted even further down to where she was laying on his chest. Kurt wrapped his arms around Rachel protectively. At that moment, he would fight a thousand armies just to make sure she was safe.
He fell asleep, thinking this definitely was step 11.
