Merlin Fanfiction
Lady Falcon
Prologue
In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit… Wait hold on! This is the wrong story. Though they look to be around the same time no? What with elves, dwarves, wizards, goblins, and dragons.
Anyways, I am here to tell you about something different entirely, it is about two very important people of our fantasy world that people have been actually debating on whether or not they really existed or just simply stories storytellers told to get food and shelter. I am talking about Arthur and Merlin; the now and future king of Camelot and the great and powerful wizard.
My name is Eileen Perri, and I am here to tell you the true tale of these two legendary beings. However, it is not going to be something that one would believe but it has happened and I will start at the beginning.
It happened on a sunny day in VanCity, B.C, I was in the public library reading Undead and Uneasy by Mary Janice Davidson -although I was supposed to be studying for my English exams that were due in a week-. My mind was filled of the vampire queen desiring shoes when my roommate Daniela Jones came running through the doors and heading straight for me. Thankfully Mrs. Jackson has gotten used to her spontaneous out bursts since I have been coming here every day.
"Eileen Lily Perri!" Daniela called as she spotted me.
I gave her a look as she made it to the table where I was sitting at. "Yes Daniela, shout my full name at the top of your lungs in a public library where everyone who could be a serial killer will be here."
"Oh shush you paranoid blondie." She retorted sitting next to me. "Mrs. Jackson loves you; if you went missing she would call the cops on a drop of a dime. Now I am not here to talk about murder or Mrs. Jackson, I have come to you baring news!"
I blinked at her. "You're pregnant?"
"What? No! Eileen!" she cried out, swatting my shoulder while ignoring everyone shushing her.
"You finally met Zachary Quinto and he has come to our side and wants to marry you?" I guessed.
Daniela rolled her eyes. "I wish! Now stop guessing and let me tell you!"
"You don't want me to guess? That's odd, usually when someone has news they want people to guess." I said going back to my book.
"Yeah well those people have no lives." She replied, waving a hand. "I am here to tell you that a circus has come to town!"
I look back up from my book to her. "Honey, we live in a city, not a town."
"Shut up and be excited with me!" she commanded me, grabbing my shoulder and shaking it. "An actual circus with animals, magicians and clowns is here!"
"I can't really act excited when you are shaking my arm off." I told her pulling my away from her. "Anyways, exactly how much is it going to cost and how long are we going to be eating Chinese?"
"That is the best part! Colin and Jeff got us tickets to see the show!" she squealed, giving her famous Cheshire cat grin.
I moaned, flopped my head onto the table. "Oh gods please no! You are setting me up with Colin again!"
"Come on Eileen! He is perfect for you, he has high cheek bones, blue eyes and black hair which I know you love on a man and his name is Colin, hello I remember you telling me that that is favourite name!" she snapped, giving me a look. "And don't even trying using the exams as an excuse because I see what you are reading and you are not just going to have a Sherlock marathon! Give him a chance please? For me, for wittle Daniela, pwease?"
I tried to look away from her face but her deep blue eyes caught me as they became lost and lonely adding her pouting lips.
She may be a hard cookie but damn her for being able to make a face that made you think you just told her that Santa Clause is dead or something.
"Oh alright!" I growled. "When is it?"
"Tonight, Collin and Jeff are going to pick us up, thank you Eileen you won't regret it!" she said before giving me a hug and ran out the door shouting. "Shopping time! I will get something for you to!"
I was about to tell her to not bother and why we need to dress up for the circus but people were glaring at me and she was already gone. I closed my mouth and turned back to my book.
A few hours later, the library was almost empty of people and I moved from my table to the lazy boy chair in the back corner of the library. I had finished my other book and now was reading a book on herbs; I find it interesting about a plants power that you could find in your own backyard.
I was getting to the subject on mushrooms when I heard a voice, a familiar voice that I knew but couldn't remember.
"Eileen." The voice called.
My lifted my head and looked around seeing no one looking my way or even my friends acting like creepers. I did however see a stream of gold light that was coming from the fantasy section. I tilted my head in curiosity at the light before putting my book on the side table before getting up. I don't really know why I decided to check it out, I have read Alice in Wonderland –being one of my top 5 favourite books- I should be more cautious following something and being curious.
'But instead of a white rabbit I am following god's ray.' I thought as I walked towards it.
I turned into the adult fantasy section and found where the light was coming from; from a book which is logically impossible –my inner Spock spoke- and not only that, the book looked super old, and very familiar to me. It took me a moment to recognize the book; it was the magic book from the TV series Merlin! It was given to Merlin by Gaius in the first season.
"Oh no" I muttered, shaking my head and backing away. "No way, I am not going to fall for that, I am not going to be dragged into that and become a love interest to Arthur or be the sister to Merlin or even related to Morgana! I am who I am; nothing is going to change that, not a book and most certainly not a dragon!"
With a firm nod I turned back and began to leave, but apparently the book didn't give a damn about what I said and gave me no choice, for the next thing I knew the stream of light shot out towards me and wrapped itself around my waist like a giant hand and dragged me towards the book.
"I said no!" I screamed. "Somebody! Help me!"
But answer there came none, and this was scarcely odd because I was already gone.
~Merlin FOREVER~
I wasn't going to let the light get the best of me!
I began pushing and pulling against the light to get away from it but it only grew bigger and was slowly beginning to form around me like a blanket or a cocoon. I tried to kick at the light but once it touched my legs, something horrifying began to happen.
My legs were slowly and painfully began to change.
"No!" I cried out in pain. "Stop, please! I do not want this, let me go! Arrrghhh!"
My once human scream changed in a minute and turned into a cry of a bird. I looked down at myself and found where my arms should have been there were wings and where my feet used to be there was talons. I would have screamed but stopped when what came out of my mou- beak! - was not human. Finally the light let me go; only now I wanted it back because the next thing I knew I was falling from the sky towards planet earth.
AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH! WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO! I screamed as I looked down and saw the ground coming closer and closer to me quite quickly. Okay, okay okay I can do this! Think Eileen. I demanded of myself as I fell.
Oh come on Eileen, think Sword in the Stone, that owl; what did he say!? Ummmmmm… I got it!
I spread my wings open and straighten my tail feathers, I found myself then instead of crashing to the ground gliding towards… a castle.
OH MY GOD THERE'S A WALL!
Benedict Cumberbatch and Cumbercookies would be proud of me for referencing that…. BUT THAT WAS BESIDE THE POINT! I had to think quickly before I became a feathered pancake!
I turned my wings and the next thing I knew I was soaring upwards like Dumbo and flew over the wall. I sighed in relief, only to realize that I have flown over the castle and was now heading towards a farm, since it is my first time flying I was getting tired and found myself diving into a bunch of hay.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhaaaaaaaaaahhh ooff!
I landed clumsily into it, but now safe on the ground I crawled out spitting out dirt and hay before hopping away before the farmer saw me.
Blegh! No wonder they say hay is for horses. I shook the hay off of be and cleaned a bit. Well that wasn't the best landing I hoped for but at least I am not a pancake… just a dirty bird… speaking of which.
I shook my body again before looking around myself; not really paying attention to what was around me, like that super hungry fox that was stalking slowly after me or that old man that was coming around the corner towards me.
Now let us see what am I, well, I have a dotted pattern and I assume I am a bird of prey. Not an eagle obviously and from what I can remember about hawks I can put that off the list soooo that makes me a falcon…. HELLS YA!
Okay besides falling in a TV series –which I am still not pleased about- but at least I am a bad ass falcon!
I was about to do a little victory dance until I caught sight of the fox whom has now froze as we made eye contact. So here we were; having a Mexican standoff only I wasn't feeling at all like Clint Eastwood. I have only just learned the art of steering and clumsy landing, I can barely fathom about how to kick start in taking flight from danger, and I got a feeling that Mr. Todd probably had an inkling of my handicap.
So I only did what any animal did when faced with something that could eat me, ran like hell! Or more like hop like hell. I turned swiftly and hopped as far and as fast as I could, flapping my wings whenever I felt the winds pick up but it seems not to be working.
Oh come on wings! Work my beauties! I cried out, making me look like a clumsy seagull rather than a regal falcon that I was made to be. If I ever find the person that did this to me I am going to use their teeth to make necklaces, sell their hair to Russia, and gouge their eyes out and ahhhhh!
During my plots for revenge I didn't see the brick wall fence in front of me and smacked into it. I shook my head before looking from the left to the right of the wall, seeing no way through, I turned back to the fox and saw him only a few feet away from me.
I never knew foxes could be so horrifying! They just dropped to my top 20 favourite animals!
I decided to try and intimidate it by crying loudly and flapping my wings about to make me larger than I look but then realized I was not trying to intimidate a bloody T-rex and also, the fox didn't really seem to care as to what I was doing and simply pounced at me.
DAMN YOU-
I was interrupted by my last words as an old man swatted at the fox with his walking stick, the fox growled at the old man before giving me one last look before running back whatever hell hole it came from. I looked up at the man and almost had a heart attack; it was Gaius!
He turned around and looked down at me in concern; I could almost feel his grandfather vibe pulsing as he reached down to me.
Oh no, nope, uh uh I am not falling for this! The dragon can kiss my feathered arse for all I care. I am not going to leave here and become a hunter with a nice master and ah! Hey!
"Come now." Gaius cooed, putting a cloth over my body and gently picked me up despite me protesting shrieks. "Easy now, I am not going to hurt you."
Well of course you are not going to hurt me! I just do not feel like being a part of this Merlin crap or become someone's dinner!
"Shhh." He shushed me as he walked back to some guards and horses. "Sorry about that lad didn't mean to stop so suddenly."
One of the guards shrugged. "We are nearly there sir so there wasn't really any hurry though I must ask; why did you save it? It is wounded and utterly useless."
It? Useless! What do you know you dumbass thug!
Gaius seemed amused by screeching while the guard backed up a little, raising an eyebrow at me.
"I do believe the bird takes offence to that Julian, besides she is not wounded, she is simply a youngling still learning the basics." Gaius said to the guard before making way through the gates of Camelot.
Before I could take a chance to look around, Gaius suddenly covered my head with his cloth, though I did try to protest only to be hushed once more.
The next thing I knew I was placed onto a table of sorts and the cloth was removed. I looked up at Gaius with a look to show him how un amused I was being almost smothered by his cloth.
"Well never in my years have I seen a specimen such as yourself, oh do not look at me like that!" he scolded me. "If I hadn't covered you up god only knows what they would think if they saw you, now hold still."
I nearly jumped out of my feathers when Gaius began groping me.
Oi! I hardly know you… well I do but hardly enough for you to do this and this is extremely unseemly!
"Well, I was right before you are not hurt, however, you look a bit more older than I thought." He began to talk, to me or himself I didn't know but I just went along with it.
He smiled down at me as I chirped at him; I tried to get myself up from the cloth only for him to lay a hand on my back to keep me down.
"Easy now Lady Falcon, you had too much excitement today, you shall rest." He ordered me.
You do realize you are talking to a bird and not a being… unless he know I am! No, no that would be too easy.
I looked away from him with a meh of a chirp, I heard him chuckle as he continued to examine me. I could feel my animal instincts to bite or claw the hand that was touching me but thankfully I still had my human mind to overpower it like Paul, and restrain myself from hurting this sweet man. I heard him gasp and I quickly looked up at him wondering what made him sound so shock; his eyes were on my wings so I tried to look.
What! Am I actually wounded? But you already told me I wasn't hurt, is there a tick I missed when I tried cleaning myself? A deformity? Come on Gaius1 don't leave me hanging man!
"Your wings, they- they are silver." He whispered, as if in wonder as he touched my wings.
… Falcon says what?
"I've only seen this magic once back in my time." He continued. "I can't imagine what a hunter would do if you were discovered, or worse, if there are more of you. I can only imagine what Uther will do but I guess if I told him I saved you from being a sacrifice or something else."
I was going to tell... Or chirp if you will at him that he was being ridiculous when he began to pet me gently, making my body relax.
"Huh, well, I guess I am not going to be totally alone anymore." I heard him grumble as I slowly fell asleep.
~Merlin….Eileen~
(Take a break, sip your drink, munch on that food, work a bit on your homework or whatever you were doing before you decided to read this by the by thank you for reading this! Reviews and questions are always welcomed)
It has been a year since that odd day, Gaius's story about saving me from a druid had actually worked with King Uther –to my astonishment- and I became Gaius's pet, not exactly what I had for my agenda but the old man needed me dammit and I was not going to leave him alone. Not only that but I would rather hunt food for Gaius than be a prize toy for either the king or the prince.
Speaking of hunting boy did it take me a while to get used to raw meat! Thankfully Gaius helped me out with that along with my flying skills. I am now able to get Gaius and I hares and chickens for our supper, unfortunately I was forbidden to touch the chickens again after getting a long lecture from Gaius.
Arthur had tried to buy me from Gaius but I wouldn't have any of it, he had his hawks, he didn't need to add me to the bunch. Gaius apparently got my message when I either flew away whenever Arthur came to visit or gets too close to me. I wouldn't return until he left. I often flew to Morgana's window, not only to spite Arthur but also to get treats from her and Gwen, so I am slightly spoiled.
Now as much as I love this place and the life I am having, I miss my old life; when I was human, hanging with Daniela, I even miss walking and talking to people.
So when Gaius went to bed, I would carefully take any book I could get my talons on and read them all through the night on anything and everything that could help me become human again. I tried finding the damn magic book but Gaius is a clever old man and has it safely hidden from the king and myself, much to my annoyance.
As months passed, I became less and hopeful and a bit bitter to everyone around me besides Gaius. I still take food from the Morgana and Gwen but I took off after I ate, I have even dived bombed on Arthur and his knights just to annoy them.
Until one night, on a full moon on summer's eve, something amazing happened and yet something bad. I was sitting on the table just looking out at the stars when something crashed behind me. I whipped my head around to find Gaius looking at me with a look of shock.
"What's wrong?" I ch-
I blinked. "What- what… I can."
I slowly looked down to my body and fell off the table, I was naked!
"My lady!" Gaius gasped walking around the table towards me.
I stood up quickly. "Gaius!"
We both stared at each other, noticing my nudity Gaius swiftly lifted the blanket from his bed and draped it over me. I covered my body quickly before looking back up at him slowly I began to smile. "Gaius, I, I cannot tell you how happy I am to speak like this with you."
"Who are you?" Gaius asked, looking up and down at me. "What are you?"
"I am not really sure myself Gaius but my name is Eileen, Eileen Lily Perri and-"
I had to stop, should I tell him what I knew? Or do I keep it to myself? I looked at Gaius long and hard… No, no I will not tell him, the timeline as to go on its trail I will not interfere unless I seriously need to. So, on a drop of a hat, I had a story and god bless my imagination was as big as Texas.
"And I have been cursed, by a sorcerer who wanted me as a bride, but I refused him." I came up quickly. "In his frustration and anger unfortunately turned me into a Falcon and in my panic I escaped him and found myself in in Camelot."
Gaius stared at me, narrowing his eyes before walking slowly closer to me and looked into my eyes. The intensity of the look made me want to tell him everything, of the truth but I held strong, only one being should know the truth and that was the dragon.
I was brought back from my thoughts of the dragon and where I could possibly find when Gaius's hand reached out and held my cheek. I looked up back at him from my daze and found him smiling at me gently; I couldn't help but smile back in reassurance.
"Eileen, what a beautiful name." he said rubbing his thumb on my cheek bone.
I surprised myself by fighting back the tears in my eyes.
"You poor child, you have truly been through too much for such a young life." He said. "Do not worry Eileen, I will find a way to keep you from King Uther's sight and this sorcerer if he ever comes looking for you. For now keep this to yourself and when the next night comes we will figure out this spell the man have cast on you."
"Thank you." I whimpered.
Before I could stop myself I threw my arms around him and hugged him. He tensed in surprise before wrapping his own arms around me. "Shh, it's alright, I promise."
Now I know I had just lied to the man but, I was so relieved, so happy to be able to be human, to be able to hold this man who is like a grandfather to me and show him how much I loved him.
The next night I was once again human so we checked off the moon since it had no powers over me, why I had suddenly became human at that time neither Gaius and I knew but I was glad for it for I was able to do things Gaius couldn't do like sort out the books and clean a bit make him a breakfast he would have to simply warm up when he awoke.
Though the nights, or even a rare day I become human are very random and when it does happen I immediately run for cover – Since I am naked and all- find some clothes and make my way back to Gaius where he will hide me till I was a bird again.
I was more livelier now than ever before though I didn't stop dive bombing on Arthur, he was too easy to annoy and I like how now every time the knight catches sight of me they held their shields over their heads.
It was a day in March that was going to change everything I knew.
I was eating some left overs of a rabbit I hunted for Gaius's lunch while Gaius was reading a letter he got from the guards by the window.
I looked up from my meal to see him taking off his glasses and rubbed his eyelids. I made a questioning chirp at him before flying over and landing on the table without blowing out the candle or catching myself on fire –long story- and looked at him with my head tilted to the side curiously.
He looked over at me from his hands and smiled at me, reaching over to me and stroked my chest. Being a falcon for a while kind of makes you mellow out when people do this and I also gave him permission since it did feel nice.
"Oh Eileen." He whispered as he pulled away, making me snap my head back to him. "My dearest friend, Hunith has asked me to take her son, Merlin. He is coming on Wednesday, to work under me, hopefully Hunith's next letter will explain to me as to why and it will give us enough time to find you a place to hide at night."
I blinked. Merlin? As in merlin's beard Merlin?
"I know you don't like to hide or like strangers, but be kind to him, I have a feeling he will be more than meets the eye."
You mean besides being a total idiot?
