Leo was asleep in bunker 9 slumped on blueprints on a table surrounded by notes when Annabeth came and told him to go get some fresh air and gave him a cup of tea to help wake him up. She said something she put in it is good for helping him ignore his ADHD and focus on what he's working on.

Leo decided to bring some of his notes to the edge of the strawberry field under some weird new trees that blocked the shade really well. Umbrella trees, he thought, but he didn't know for sure.

His eyes started to get sore and he picked up his tea and looked around at the strawberry field when he saw someone lay down in between a few rows of plants. He thought it was Nico but he wasn't certain. They'd never talked before. He looked upset and Leo decided to go say hi.

He walked up and Nico looked like he had no energy and might never be able to get up again.

"Jeez, you look terrible! What happened?" Leo asked.

"Thanks. That comment was totally necessary and very nice. Why are you here?" Nico asked with his eyes closed and an annoyed tone on.

"I just wanted to take a break from the notes I'm working on and you looked like a good distraction" Leo said.

Nico opened his eyes and his mouth, about to give an irritable retort when he saw the boy's eyes. Brown but not just flat like most people. Gold and hazel and easy to get lost in. And they had an odd fire dancing in them. They screamed mischief.

"Hell-hound got your tongue?" Leo said with a smug smirk on his lips.

"Oh piss off," said Nico, secretly hoping Leo would choose to stay despite Nico's mood. Luckily Leo wasn't easily deterred.

"If you can get up let's sit under this weird tree. It's hot out here. The sun is at full sunburning blast."

Nico moved to the position next to Leo under the tree. He was right. Everything around them had the golden tint of the bright sun.

"You don't smile much, do you?" asked Leo, examining his notes.

"Not when my company isn't paying full attention to me. If you put down your notes and make an effort you might get a smile out of me," Nico said, only half-joking.

"Fine by me. I'm bored with these notes anyway. You just have to stay and promise not to leave me alone and break my little heart." Leo said putting a hand on his chest and adding a dramatic tone to the last sentence.

"Did you just flirt with me Valdez?" Nico said, smiling for the first time possibly in months.

"Why, yes I did. And how do you feel about that, di Angelo?"

Nico just smirked, pulled Leo closer by his shirt said, "It's fine by me," and without stopping to think about what he was doing, kissed him. Normally Nico wouldn't be so quick but he couldn't help but think this would go somewhere.

A few weeks later Nico and Leo came out together at a campfire. Nico would always think it was odd that he was just trying to avoid everyone and he ended up falling for the son of Hephaestus.
