IMPORTANT EDIT, PLEASE READ: Welcome! To the revised version of Bonds We Forge!
Well... Chapter 1 at least... I felt that now that my writing has greatly improved, I should go back and revise this chapter, as it's usually the first impression of the story. With that said, I spent a lot of time on this revision, so i do hope you enjoy it! Now uhh... I wrote a majority of this on my phone, so excuse any typos, or errors that I may have missed.
But anyways, on with the real authors notes... and by real, I mean what was here before. LOL
Welcome to my next major story, This story will be focused on my purple dragon OC called Maverick, in search of his long lost sibling, Who will this sibling be? We'll find out soon enough!
Mavericks appearance: Maverick is essentially a teenage Spike, except he has green scales with purple spines on his head, back, and tail, his wings are green and purple and his eyes were Emerald, he also stood at about 5' 11. with his body build being slim, it makes him quite agile.
Anyways, that's all for now!
ON WITH THE FANFIC!
Chapter 1: Mavericks journey
On a peaceful island, lived a small dragon family, they lived in a cave with their son, that son, is me; Maverick. Or should I say, Adopted son. Yeah, that's a long story. However, we're not here to discuss that, at least, not yet...
We're here to discuss my journey. What will that journey entail? Well... You'll just have to find out yourself.
It was in the middle of the afternoon, I was sitting at a beach a ways away from my home. I always loved listening to the sounds of nature, it allowed me to think.
The sound of the waves hitting the shores, and the wind gently blowing at the leaves, causing them to rustle. These sounds were rather relaxing to me.
Sighing, I stood up and stretched, my muscles popping slightly from sitting down for awhile. Soon, I took off and made my way back to my home. As I landed at the entrance and walked inside, I met the large green eyes of a light yellow and blue dragon.
The dragon smiled softly and spoke "Hello Maverick." She said
"Hey Mom." I said back, smiling a little.
"How was your flight, sweetie?" She asked.
"it was fine." I said in a rather depressing tone, walking passed my mom and into the cave.
She gave a look of concern and followed after me. "Something's obviously on your mind..." She said.
I sighed and nodded a little "Yeah... It's just... I've been thinking a lot..." I told her as I looked down at my feet.
"Oh? And what are you thinking about?"
"My family... And not you and Dad... But... My ACTUAL family... I-I mean, I DO remember them, but I don't remember what they're like..." I said, slumping over and sighing.
My mom's eyes narrowed a little. But after that, she gave a rather kind smile.
"What would you like to know about them?" She asked.
I perked up and looked at her again, "What...? You knew them...?" I asked.
"Yes, I did. Your real mother and I knew each other back in the day, you could say we were best friends..." My mom gave a light chuckle. Meanwhile, I gasped as I stood there is disbelief.
"Y-You did...? And you never told me?"
"I was simply waiting for the right moment..." She said rather cryptically. "Anyways... Your mother was very brave... Caring... Kind..." She listed off things about my birth mother. "...And kind of an egghead at times..." She added, giving another light chuckle.
I laughed a little at that comment.
"Now, your real father-" My mom was interrupted by someone.
"I'm back!" A voice exclaimed, we looked in the direction of the voice and saw an equally as big, red and gray dragon standing at the caves entrance.
"Welcome back honey, I was just telling Maverick about his birth parents." My mom said. And my dad smiled brightly in response.
"Oh really? Mind if I tell him about his father?" He asked as he walked towards us
My mom chuckled in response. "Go right ahead."
My dad looked at me and began talking "Your father; much like your mother, was also very brave and kind... However he was also a bit of an airhead and a goofball, always saying things that were far from being a fact... But your mother loved him..." He said. He suddenly began looking me over. "Now that I look at you... You really do resemble him..." He commented.
I smiled a little "I, uhh, I have another question... Did I have any siblings?" I asked them.
"Well... You should know the answer to that..." My mom said. I gave out a sigh and looked down.
"The answer is no..." I said in a depressing tone again. However when I looked up, my moms expression was... Surprise?
"I thought she told you..." She muttered
"H-Huh...?"
"Maverick, I don't know much about him or her... Or whether they're still alive... But you may have a sibling somewhere out there..." She told me.
Now it was my turn to look surprised. "Y-You mean... I might have an ACTUAL blood relative somewhere!? For real?!" I asked, feeling happy and shocked all at once.
"Yes... As I said, I don't know much... All I know is that your mother told me about it... It was several months before..." She suddenly stopped. "She told me she planned to tell you when the time was right..." she explained
"B-But... That time never came..." I said as I felt a few tears escape my eyes
"W-Why did they have to die...?" I asked, my voice wavering slightly. "WHY?!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as tears began to roll down my cheeks. I fell to my knees and began sobbing loudly.
Mom wrapped her tail around me and sighed. "I know, it's not fair, but it couldn't be helped..." She said softly.
"Sport, hey, look at me." I heard my dads voice, I slowly looked up and saw his face. "Yes, It isn't fair, but remember-" He moved in a bit closer "You're still here, you're still kickin', and I'm sure that's all your parents wanted. All they wanted was for you to live a happy, healthy life. Wouldn't you agree?" He said to me.
"I-I..." I sniffled and wiped my tears away, "Y-You're right dad... I'm here, and that's all that matters..." I said as I slowly stood up."B-But... What I really want is to meet my brother or sister, whoever they are." I said.
Mom and Dad looked at each other, then back at me, "Sport..." My dad began, "Even if you did... How would you go about it? You don't know if this sibling is even alive... Heck, even if they are alive, how would you find them?" Dad asked.
"I'll... I'll scour the entire world if I have too! I don't care how long it takes! I WILL find them!" I exclaimed, my face full of determination.
My parents exchanged looks again, then turned their attention back at me. Smiling slightly. "Your mind is made up... Huh?" He asked. I nodded in response.
"Maverick, honey, Your father and I were thinking, and we think that you've reached the age where, you can go out on your own." Mom explained. I gasped slightly.
"R-Really?!" I asked in disbelief. All Mom did was nod in response.
"Then, I'll prepare to leave tomorrow!" I exclaimed "Any objections to that?"
Mom and Dad shook their heads.
"Then it's settled!" I exclaimed in excitement. Running off rather quickly. I had a lot to prepare for after all.
It was the middle of the night, I was laying down on the ground, my eyes wide open as I looked up at the ceiling
I wonder what my brother or sister is like... Maybe they'll be really nice!
Or maybe they'll be a jerk... Like the others...
Only time will tell...
I eventually closed my eyes and went to sleep...
The next morning, I had packed up a few essentials... Mainly food and water. Preferably gems
I know, I know, A lot of dragons would just simply horde them, But I wasn't the type to horde, so I solely ate them... Eventually I finished packing and was ready to leave.
I stood outside the cave with my parents, frowning a little as I stared up at them. "I'll be sure to write to you guys as much as I can..." I said. Mom gave him a warm smile and Dad gave a light chuckle
"You really are just like your father..." He said rather proudly. I smiled back as I put my satchel over my shoulder and secured it
"Bye Mom! Bye Dad!" I exclaimed as I began to take off.
"Goodbye son!" They both said, waving at me as I flew up into the air. "We love you!" They added.
"I love you too!" I yelled back. And with that, I flew off
Mavericks Journal
Entry #1
My first entry in my new journal... This is so exciting!
Anyways... After flying over the ocean for a while, I finally found land that wasn't connected to our island... I've stacked up on enough gems to last me for around 1 week
If needed, I can look for more.
Oh! I better say why I'm traveling, I'm looking for my long lost sibling, I'm hoping a brother!
Wait...I already know why I'm traveling... BUT future me probably forgot!
Hi future me! I hope you can look back on this with our brother/sister and remember these days!
Well... It's getting pretty late, so I'm ending the entry here.
END OF ENTRY
I closed up my journal and put it in my satchel "Heh... I bet one day, I'm gonna look back on this and laugh..." I said to myself, I laid down and looked up at the ceiling of the cave I was in. Slowly, I closed my eyes and eventually drifted off.
I felt sunlight hit my eyes as the sun rose, I slowly opened my eyes and sat up, rubbing the sleep out of them. I then stood up and stretched my arms and legs, yawning a little. Then I stretched out my wings. "Well, Time to get a move on!" I exclaimed as I put my satchel back on and flapped my wings, rising into the air and taking off. "I may need to get a map, flying blindly isn't a good idea after all..." I said to myself, however something suddenly caught my attention in the distance. It was pegasus flying around.
I flew up to the Pegasus and called out "Excuse me?" The Pegasus looked towards me... At least... I think they were looking at me. They had a blondish mane, and rather crazy yellow eyes that looked in two different directions. It was kind of distracting, honestly.
"Can I help you?" She asked, snapping me back into reality.
"O-Oh, Um, do you know where the nearest town is?"
"Well... Canterlot isn't too far from here, It's that way..." The cross eyed Pegasus said, pointing behind her.
"Canterlot... Got it, Thanks... What's your name?" I asked.
"I have a few names... Ponies call me Ditzy, Derpy, Muffins..." She listed off her various names.
"I'll call you Derpy then..." I said, settling on the more fitting name. To me anyways. "It's nice to meet you, My name is Maverick."
"Same here... I'd like to stay and chat, but I got some mail to deliver." Derpy said as she flew off.
"Bye!" I exclaimed, waving at her, before turning to the direction she pointed. "Canterlot... Maybe If they have a train, I can follow the tracks and fly to other stops..." I said before flying off in the direction.
I had been flying for awhile, My wings were tired and sore, and it was midnight. "Ugh, I've been flying for 4 hours!" I exclaimed, clearly frustrated at how long it's taking. However, a city suddenly came into view, much to my relief. "Finally!" I exclaimed as I landed outside of the city and read the sign. "Canterlot." I muttered.
However, I suddenly felt a yawn coming on "Maybe I should..." I yawned in the middle of my sentence "find a place to... Sleep..." I finished as I started walking, however I didn't make it very far. I fell face first into the ground and blacked out.
I slowly woke up to the sound of muttering, causing me to sit up and rub my eyes before scanning the area, to my surprise, I found that several ponies were gathered around me, they looked taken aback to seeing me awake.
"May I help you?" I asked them. But... All the ponies suddenly looked... Scared... "U-Umm... Are you just gonna stand there and watch?" I asked, feeling a little nervous.
A mare finally spoke up, walking a little closer towards me "W-W-What is a dragon like yourself doing here?" She asked, her voice sounding shaky.
"I'm just traveling... I don't intend to hurt anypony if that's what you're thinking..." I said, everypony sighed with relief when I said that. But...
"W-Wait, What if he's just trying to deceive us!?" A stallion spoke up, causing everyone to look panicked once again.
"What? That's ridi-" I couldn't finish my sentence as everypony began to run away from me in fear.
I sighed a little "Why must ponies be so afraid of dragons?" I asked myself before standing up and walking over to the sign before sitting down and taking out my journal to begin writing a new entry.
Entry #2
Last night, I was flying FOREVER, my wings are so sore!
Ugh, I may have to rest up for awhile...
More importantly, the ponies in Canterlot seem to be afraid of me... I mean, I don't mind it, but I honestly think that they shouldn't judge a book by it's cover...
As for my sibling, I have no leads on where I could find them so far...
The only idea I have, is to look around and if I can't find a dragon, move on...
Thats really all I have to say right now... So I'm done writing here...
END OF ENTRY
I closed up my journal again and put it in my satchel, then I put my satchel over my shoulder and secured it again. "Might as well take the time to look around." I muttered before spreading my sore wings and taking off again, flying around the city,
I had been flying for a good 45 minutes. My wings were even sore to the point where it hurt. "Ugh, It's no use... I'm just gonna have to assume that my sibling isn't here..." I said to myself in sadness.
Thankfully, I spotted a train station, which was perfect! That meant I could find out where I could go next! I landed in front of the map and looking at each station that was labeled.
"Let's see... Manehattan, Las Pegasus, Ponyville..." I listed the names off "My next stop will be Manehattan..." I decided on it "And Manehattan is..." I looked at the map briefly, then turned to my right and pointed "That way!" I spread my wings and was about to take off, But...
"Ngh...!" A sharp pain entered my body "Must be over-exerting myself..." I muttered as I walked away from the station and found a place to rest a little ways away, I sat down and simply relaxed, My eyes began drooping a little, next thing I knew, I fell asleep.
I was running through a forest, breathing heavily as I pushed away several bushes and vines in my path. I briefly looked behind me to see a black shadowy mist, I quickly looked back in front of me and kept on running. Images of my birth parents were flashing in my mind. The memory of me finding them dead on loop.
Suddenly, I tripped and fell on something, I looked back to see the mist quickly surrounding me, shrouding the area in darkness.
I saw the silhouette of something in front of me, though it was too difficult to make out. I tried to look at their face, but I felt too weak. I felt a sudden sharp pain enter my back, almost as if I was being stabbed. That's when I began to lose consciousness.
The last thing I heard was the scream of a child.
My eyes snapped open and I shot up, panting heavily as I gripped my chest. "T-That dream..." I said, rather shaken by the sudden nightmare that I had. It was really... Frightening...
As I slowly calmed down, I quickly grabbed my journal and started writing in it.
Entry #3
Ugh, Last night I really over-exerted myself, my whole body was incredibly sore...
But besides that... I had one of the worst nightmares ever...
I don't exactly know the meaning... Heck, I don't even think I can talk about it that much.
The images of Mom and Dad, The mist, That silhouette... That childs' scream...
Anyways, My body is fully rested, so I can probably head to the next stop.
That's all I'm writing for now...
END OF ENTRY
I closed up my journal and placed it in my satchel
"Guess it's about time to leave..." I said as I secured my satchel and took off"
As I flew, I began to take in the scenery a bit. "Y'know... The scenery isn't that bad..." I said to myself. This was one of my favorite things about flying, the beautiful views that I can get from being so high up in the air, however my viewing was interrupted by my stomach growling "Huh, guess it's about that time." I said as I landed on the ground and looked in my satchel.
I took out an emerald and ate it in one bite, licking the crumbs off my lips. "Ahhh... The taste of a delicious emerald..." I decided now would also be a good time to drink some water, so I did just that.
Afterwards, I secured my satchel again and took off "This is gonna take awhile..." I muttered
I continued to fly, my sore wings aching from all the flying I've been doing.
"Urrrrg... Come on... Manehattens GOTTA be around here somewhere...!" I said to myself, groaning a little.
Suddenly, I saw a city in the distance, my guess was that it was Manehatten. "Yes!" I exclaimed in happiness, however that was short-lived, as my wing suddenly decided to cramp up. I began to spiral downwards, unable to recover.
"CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!" I yelled as I crashed into the street "Owwww..." Well that definitely could've gone better...
"A-Are you alright mister?" I heard a young voice call out. This prompted me to look up. What I saw was a purple unicorn filly with a light brown mane, looking straight at me. What shocked me was that there wasn't a single ounce of fear on her face.
"Ngh... Yeah..." I said as I slowly stood up and brushed the dust off of me. Huh.. A Pony that's not running away... That's surprising.
My eyes suddenly widened and I quickly looked at the wing that had cramped. I quickly flapped it to make sure I could still move it. Thankfully, I could.
"You're a dragon, aren't you?!" The filly asked, her eyes lighting up a little.
"An excellent observation. Yeah, I am a dragon." I replied, a slight smile appearing on my face.
"What's your name?!" She asked rather excitedly.
"The name's Maverick." I said.
"Nice to meet you, My name is Jess!" She introduced herself. Giving me a rather bright smile.
"Likewise..." I muttered and looked off into the distance for a bit, before looking back at her. "Aren't you... Scared of me?" I asked.
Jess gasped a little, seemingly shocked by the question. "Of course not! You're a nice dragon aren't you?" She asked, smiling innocently.
I chuckled a little and rubbed the back of my neck, "Yeah... Lots of ponies seem to be scared of me though..." Jess frowned a little at my comment.
"Oh... That's too bad..." She said, looking down at the ground.
"Honestly, You're the first pony who hasn't run away..." I stood there in silence for a brief moment. Before saying. "Well I should get going..."
"Why's that?" She asked on curiosity. Tilting her head a little.
"I'm looking for a family member... Are there any other dragons around here?" I asked, sounding considerably eager to find my missing sibling. But alas, Jess shook her head and said
"No, not that I know of..." She looked pretty guilty. I sighed a little and frowned.
"Guess I gotta move on..." I said, I was about to take off, but...
"Wait!" Jess called out. I looked back towards her in confusion. "You can stay at my house for the night if you'd like!" She offered.
"No... I shouldn't..." I said, rubbing the back of my neck sheepishly.
"But, you need your rest." She argued, narrowing her eyes slightly.
"Pfft! I'll be fi-" I was interrupted by a sudden sharp pain entering my wings, causing me to wince a little.
Jess stared at me for a solid 20 seconds before I groaned and slumped over. "Fine... You win..." I said, rolling my eyes a little. Jess jumped up and down in excitement, she quickly grabbed my hand and started dragging me away.
After being dragged by the young filly, who was surprisingly strong. We eventually arrived at her house. She opened the door and dragged me inside before she finally stopped "Daaaad! We have a guest!" She exclaimed. Out came another purple unicorn, with a darker brown mane and; what appeared to be a cutie mark of a typewriter. His facial expression was a mixture of fear, and shock.
"J-Jess, You brought a dragon home!?" Jess' Father exclaimed, his voice slightly shaky as he slowly and cautiously approached me.
"But he's hurt, he needs a place to stay!" Jess argued.
"B-But, What if he's dangerous!?"
Hey! Quit stereotyping dragons! Not all dragons are dangerous! I thought to myself. Feeling slightly insulted, I took a deep breath to calm down, and began to speak "With all due respect sir, If I wanted to hurt you, I would have done it by now..." I explained. The scared stallion loosened up a little.
"So you won't eat us?" He asked in fear.
"Pff- that's just an old stereotype! Dragons don't eat ponies! They eat gems!" I gave a laugh and extended my arm out "The names Maverick!"
The stallion extended his hoof and shook my hand "My name is Cyrus..." He introduced himself.
"Nice to meet you." I gave a warm smile.
"So he can stay for the night?!" Jess asked excitedly.
"Yes... He can stay..." Cyrus replied. Causing the little filly to cheer excitedly
"There's a guest bedroom you can stay in, down that h my temporary room. Setting my satchel down, I took my journal out and began to write in it.
Entry #4
Today I met a little filly who actually wasn't scared of me.
She took me to her house to stay for the night.
I'll probably head to Ponyville next...
I wish that I could find my sibling, I'm tired of looking.
My food source is running low as well.
I may need to find a cave or something...
Anyways, this is all I'm gonna write for now.
END OF ENTRY
Once I was done, I put my journal back in my satchel and closed it up. Tossing it aside, I slowly laid down in the bed and pulled the covers over me
"Tomorrow's another day of searching... I said to myself before closing my eyes and going to sleep
I suddenly woke up with a start, having been frightened by a nightmare. I was sweating profusely as I breathed heavily. "Just... Another dream..." This dream was about my birth parents... Their death... Just trying to remember it was making me emotional... I sniffled slightly and started tearing up. "Mom... Dad..."
Jess' head peeked in through the door. "Mr. Maverick? Are you okay?" She asked.
"Y...Yeah, I'm fine..." I replied.
Jess walked in and sat on the bed with me "Why're you crying?" She asked.
"It's nothing you should concern yourself with..." I said, looking down at my feet.
"O...Okay..." Jess replied. "Well... Dad and I are gonna walk you to the train station, if you're ready to go." She spoke. I gave a small nod and stood up, grabbing my satchel and putting it over my shoulder once again.
"Let's go."
I now stood at the train station with Cyrus and Jess, feeling much more refreshed than before. "Thanks for everything." I said, a smile on my face as I soon began to take off, knowing what my next destination was.
"Maverick." Cyrus said quickly, stopping me from taking off.
"Hm?" I looked slightly confused. He then handed me enough bits to buy a train ticket to my next stop, my eyes widened. "I-I can't take this from you! You guys have already done so much for me!" I exclaimed.
Cyrus simply shook his head. "It's alright... Jess and I think that you really need to take the train... You should rest your body, you've been flying around for Celestia knows how long." He said.
I smiled slightly and accepted the money. "Thank you so much... How can I ever repay you?" I asked.
"You don't need to repay me... You're looking for family, you need all the help you can get..." He explained.
I went over and bought a ticket to ponyville, then went back to them.
"Maybe we'll see each other again sometime..." I said, smiling at them both.
"I hope so!" Jess exclaimed excitedly. "I've never been friends with a dragon before! Wait till I tell my friends!"
I laughed a little. "Seriously, thank you so much..."
"You gonna keep thanking us? Or are you gonna catch your train?" Cyrus asked.
"O-Oh! Right! Goodbye!" I waved as i boarded the train. Pretty soon, we disembarked. I found my seat and sat, then I took my journal out and began writing.
Entry #5
Jess and Cyrus, The family that let me spend the night at their house, provided enough bits to buy a ticket to ponyville.
I'm very grateful, I hope I can one day return the favor...
I'm hoping that I'll finally find something in ponyville...
That's really all I have to say for now...
END OF ENTRY
Once I finished writing, I put my journal back and set my satchel aside. Keeping it close by.
"Might as well take a nap." I said with a yawn as I shut my eyes and took a brief nap.
The sound of the conductor yelling woke me up as I rubbed my eyes. "Ponyville, Next Stop!" He exclaimed. This was my stop!
"Finally." I said as I got up and put my satchel back on, taking a quick look in it, I noticed I was low on gems, I sighed a little. "Ugh, I'm gonna need more gems..." I said to myself in slight annoyance. Once the train stopped I got off of it. "Alright, time to take a look." I soon spread my wings and took off. Searching the area thoroughly.
Meanwhile, Rainbow Dash was doing what she did best. Practicing flying tricks, and generally being awesome. She was about to do a quadruple loop, but something caught her attention. Her eyes were glued to something green and purple flying around. "What is that?" She muttered to herself as she flew in closer.
It didn't take long for her to notice exactly what it was, she gasped a little. "A dragon!? Here?!" She said in shock. Why was a dragon here of all places? "I better tell Twilight!" She exclaimed before she flew off.
"So... You saw a dragon?" Twilight asked, clearly skeptical about this claim. Why would a dragon be in Ponyville? For what purpose? She had to admit, she was curious.
"Of course I did!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed in confidence. Sounding 100% certain of what she saw.
"Hmmm..." Twilight pondered. Rubbing her chin slightly. "Alright, We'll look into it." She said. "Rainbow Dash, Get the others, if there is a dragon, I don't want to face it alone if things go south..."
"Got it!" Rainbow dash exclaimed before flying off
"Another dragon?" Spike questioned. "You think it might be someone from the Dragonlands...?" He asked. Shuddering slightly as he remembered how he was treated by the dragons there.
"I'm not sure... Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this though... Come on Spike." Twilight began to walk off. With Spike quickly following after her.
I had been flying for awhile, my wings were already getting pretty tired... "Maybe I should rest." I said to myself, deciding to land and let my wings rest up.
However... I suddenly heard something in the distance... Screaming? I was suddenly tackled by... Something... It was weird, one second I was standing. The next I was on the ground. Face to face with a Rainbow maned Pegasus as she practically pinned me before I could react. "Alright, Who are you and what are you doing here!?" She asked in a threatening tone.
"U-Umm..." I stuttered. Unsure how to respond to this situation.
"Answer me!" She yelled. Glaring intensely at me
"Rainbow Dash! Calm down!" A voice exclaimed. Causing the rainbow maned pegasus to get off of me.
"Ow..." I muttered as I sat up and looked at my wing. Which was now limp. I touched it briefly and gave out a small wince of pain. "Thanks... Now my wing is broken..." I said, sighing a little.
"Sorry about her..." The purple pony apologized.
"It's fine..." I said as I stood up. In front of me stood six ponies. Two earth ponies, two pegasi, one unicorn, and one... I wasn't sure actually... It looked like a mix of both a pegasus and unicorn.
One of the earth ponies was orange with a blondish looking mane, She also wore a hat, And the other earth pony was a pink pony with pink poofy hair, She looked very excited for some reason.
Then there were the pegasi, One of them was a cyan pegasus with a rainbow mane, which was the pegasus that broke my wing. And the other pegasus was sort of cream colored one with a pink mane.
Then the unicorn, She was white with a purple mane, She looked very elegant and well mannered.
And lastly we have... The hybrid. She was lavender, and her mane was kind of a dark purple with reddish and light purpleish streaks... That's all I have to say about her...
"My name is Twilight Sparkle, These are my friends, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, And Spike." She introduced everyone.
"So, I know what everyone else is but..." I gestured to Twilight "What are you? I was never really told much about pony culture..." I explained.
"Why, she's an alicorn! A princess to be exact!" Rarity exclaimed.
"A... Princess? Interesting..." I said. "Well, My name is Maverick..." I introduced myself briefly.
I looked at the little dragon standing next to Twilight, my eyes widened upon seeing what he looked like. He looked very young, he was a small purple and green dragon... And he was honestly very cute... But his appearance... There was no way...
"Now, if you don't mind me asking... Why are you here?" Twilight asked politely. Waiting for my answer.
"I'm searching for a long lost relative..." I answered.
"A relative? Well, I doubt you'd find them, there aren't that many dragons around Ponyville..." Twilight responded, she looked kind of sorry for me.
"Actually... Forgive me for saying this but... Maybe Spike is my missing relative?" I inquired, causing her to look a bit shocked at my suggestion.
"Pardon...? Spike has lived with me for years, I hatched him as an egg. I think I'd hear about him having an older brother at one point or another." Twilight said, doubtful that Spike had any living relatives.
"There's a chance however, considering my younger brother was lost as an egg as far as I'm aware." Saying this seemed to pique Twilights curiosity.
"Hmmm, perhaps a DNA test can prove if you two really are related..." She suggested.
"I'm up for it... But I'm only gonna do it, if Spike is willing to."
"Spike?" Twilight looked at Spike. Who admittedly, was having a difficult time taking all this in.
"I...I barely know this dragon, and he's saying he's my long lost brother... You expect me to just go with it nonchalantly?" He asked.
"Look, Spike, I understand your thought process, but can you cooperate please? If you're not my sibling, I'll just leave..." I said.
Spike thought about it for a bit before sighing. He gave a small nod. "Alright..."
"Good..." I was about to start walking off. But Rainbow Dash suddenly flew up to my face and began talking. " Listen here, if you try any funny business, I'll be sure to break more than your wing!" She exclaimed. I gulped a little and nodded.
"Understood..."
Twilight had taken Spike and I to get our blood drawn for a DNA test... And also to get my wing bandaged up...
"It should only take a few hours." The doctor told us. We all just sat in the waiting room and... Well, waited...
I cleared my throat a little and started to speak up. "Look, If the DNA doesn't match... I'm sorry for wasting your time here..." I apologized, feeling bad for making them do this.
"No need to apologize, I am quite curious myself..." Twilight replied, waving a hoof nonchalantly.
"But... What if we do turn out to be brothers?" Spike asked.
"...We'll figure that out if and when we get there... Right now, we just gotta be patient..."
I decided to take my journal out and start writing in it.
"What's that?" Spike asked in curiosity.
" Ah! It's my journal, I've been keeping everything that's happened written down, and I'm about to write some more." I said before I started writing in it.
Entry #6
My search has lead me to ponyville. Though I believe it's coming to an end...
I met a group of friends, they all seem very nice. But one of the ponies broke my wing however, so I got that bandaged up while I was here.
The one I'm curious about the most however, is Spike, a very young dragon. We are currently waiting for the results of a DNA test, to see if we're brothers...
I'm very nervous about this... But at the same time... I'm excited...
That's all I have to write for now...
END OF ENTRY
Eventually, The doctor finally came out. "The results are here." He said as he handed them over. Twilight took the results and read them slowly. Her eyes widening as she read.
"What is it Twilight?" Spike asked, sounding kind of eager to know.
"It's a match...!"
Spike and I looked at each other and said in unison "A match!?"
"I-I really have a brother!?" Spike asked in shock.
"I-I'm just as shocked as you are!"
"Well?" Rainbow Dash asked, seemingly as curious as everyone else.
"What did the tests say?" Applejack spoke up.
"They came back as a match." Twilight revealed, showing everyone the results.
"Does that mean that you two are... Brothers?" Fluttershy asked.
"It certainly does." I replied, giving a quick nod
"Maverick?" Spike called out.
"Yeah Spike?"
"I have a question." He said.
"What is it?" I tilted my head a little, rather curious as to what his question might be.
"What are Mom and Dad like?" I bit my lip slightly upon hearing this question. And unfortunately, I noticed that Twilight saw the look on my face
"Mom w- is... brave... Caring... Kind..." I said, trying my hardest not to break down in tears while talking about Mom and Dad. "...And kind of an egghead at times..." Spike giggled slightly. "Now Dad... . He is also... very brave and kind... However he's also a bit of an airhead and a goofball... But Mom loves him..." Unfortunately, I couldn't hold back and started tearing up a bit.
"Why do you look like you're about to cry?" Spike inquired, raising an eyebrow slightly.
"I-Its nothing... I'm just... Happy that I found you..." I lied, biting my lip again.
"You know what this calls for!?" Pinkie Pie asked in excitement.
"What?" I tilted my head slightly.
"A PARTY!" She threw confetti in the air and cheered, then she zoomed off.
Twilight laughed a little "That's Pinkie for you..."
Pinkie Pie had set up a party for me in record time. It was kind of impressive honestly.
I was leaning against a wall, trying to be alone in all honesty, but Twilight suddenly approached me."Maverick... I know you're hiding something... So please be honest with me when I ask... What really happened to your parents...?" Twilight asked
I once again started tearing up slightly. "Promise me you won't say anything to Spike... I-I don't think he's ready to learn about it yet..." Twilight just nodded."Well... Our parents... They're... d-dead..." I said. frowning slightly upon remembering such painful memories.
Twilight gasped "What?" She asked in shock, her eyes wide as she waited for me to continue.
"They died before Spike h, but we lost Spike in a storm..." I gritted my teeth and held back my tears.
"I...I can't imagine what it's like to lose your parents..." Twilight said, tearing up slightly as well.
"Twilight... It hurts... To lose somebody you love... Somebody you're close to... and I...I don't want that to happen to Spike... As his older brother, I must protect him, now that I know he exists, I don't wanna lose him...!"
"You're gonna be a good brother... I can tell..." Twilight said.
I smiled a little and sniffled slightly. "Thanks."
"Maverick, you still need a place to sleep, right?" She asked.
"Yeah I do."
"Well, You can stay here if you'd like."
"R-Really!?"
Twilight nodded and gave a gentle smile. "Of course... Now that we know you're Spike's brother... I'm pretty sure he'd want you to stay here too..." She said with a chuckle.
"Good point... Well, thank you so much. Really."
"Now, come on. You should enjoy this party! It IS yours after all." She trotted off to talk with her friends again. I soon went off to have some fun and just generally enjoy the party.
Once the party ended, we all cleaned everything up, then everyone else left. I was still pretty hyped up from the party. "Man...! That party was awesome!" I exclaimed.
"Well, That's a Pinkie Pie party for you." Twilight replied, laughing a little as she cleaned the rest of the confetti up.
"But man... I'm beat..." I said, stretching slightly as my arms and legs popped in a few places.
"Let me show you where you'll be sleeping." Twilight said as she lead me to a room in the castle. She opened the door and showed me inside. The room itself wasn't too immaculate. There was a bed, a bedside table, a desk to write on, and some free spaces on the walls to hang up photos. "It's not much but, I hope it'll do..." She said.
"Compared to the cave floor, this is paradise!" I exclaimed, sounding excited as a I jumped onto my bed and laughed like a child.
Twilight giggled slightly at my behavior. "I look forward to getting to know you better." She said, smiling softly.
"Yeah... Same here... Thanks again for all this, it REALLY means a lot..."
"You like to say thank you a lot, don't you?" Twilight asked.
"I suppose, but how else can I show my appreciation for what you've done?"
"Fair enough... I'll see you in the morning, goodnight." Twilight soon walked out and shut the door. I got up out of my bed and decided to go over to my new desk. Sitting down, I took out my journal and began writing.
Entry #7
The results came back as a match! I can't believe it!
I actually found my long lost brother!
Golly... I've never been a big brother before!
...I hope Spike can show me around ponyville tomorrow! This is so exciting!
Anyways, It's getting pretty late, so I'm gonna cut this entry a tad short.
END OF ENTRY
Once I was certain I was done for the night, I closed up my journal and put it back inside my satchel then got into bed and pulled the covers over me. Sighing at how soft this bed is compared to the cave floor. "Tomorrow is gonna be a busy day..." I soon closed my eyes and went to sleep.
Revised chapter! Done! I think this is miles better than the original version. I hope you think so too!
