Homecoming
She wakes up crying, she wakes up covered in sweat and tears and, for a moment, she wonders if he will be there, if he will hug her tightly.
Then, she remembers. He's not here. He won't be back.
There's silence everywhere. The house -once a home- is quiet and creepy and lonely, and she needs something to do, someone to stay with. She needs heat and kind words, she needs Tony back, with her. She needs a coffee, too, and so she heads to the kitchen.
There's still dirty dishes on the sink. She hasn't got the strenght to wash them and, besides, there's no one here to complain. It's been a week since Tony disappeared -since he left you, say some people- and there's no news, no calls, there's no trace of him anywhere. She's been looking, she's been crying. She's been hoping for a note -for something saying he's okay, he's just left with someone, he doesn't love her. For something saying he's alive and she's wrong, she doesn't need to cry. Stop waiting for me, Sally. Cancel the wedding plans.
She drinks slowly, cold coffee, no milk. No sugar, either -she isn't sure if she still has some left. Maybe. Perhaps she should go shopping, clean up, start living again. It's been a week, and JJ says -he's always saying those things- that if Tony hasn't contacted yet, he probably won't do it. You should leave it, Sally, he's said. We're looking for him, you know. Stop this, go on with your life. He knows it's hard, he says, but there's nothing else to do for her. He could be dead, for all we know. You have to keep living, she can't.
She's still waiting. He hasn't come home.
Danny
