I walk into the Ghost, feeling at home. The mission to get the rebels from the empire training base was fairly successful. I just wish hobby had been saved… but best not to dwell on the past. Especially in a war.

After changing, I eat dinner, then leave the Ghost to watch the sunset. I walk up a cliff and sit right on the edge. It's hues of yellow, orange and pink are beautiful. I have a strong urge to paint it. I probably will later. I hear a small commotion, and look down at the base to see what's happening.

Wedge and Ezra are arguing. I can't make out what they're saying, but I see Wedge shove Ezra. I wait for them to start fighting, but they just walk away from each other. To my surprise, Ezra starts heading up here. He sits right next to me, watching the sunset.

"Rough day, huh?" he asks.

"Yeah," I reply

" It wasn't your fault that Hobby died."

"Yeah, it was. I'm the one that decided to break off from the group. I lead them. It was my fault."

After saying that, we sit in silence for a bit. The breeze blows gently in my face, and I close my eyes, feeling it wash over me. For just a moment, I feel so calm and content. I open my eyes, and the sun has set a bit more, the sky tinged with purple. I turn to Ezra and ask "Why were you arguing with Wedge? What was all that about?"

"Um, you don't want to know."

"Yes, I do. Please tell me."

"Ok… he was asking me if you were dating anyone. And I said no, but to stay away from you because…."

"Because what?" I press.

"Well, Sabine, because I...um...I like you. Like, I like like you."

The moment I hear those words, my eyes widen and my mouth hangs open. I wasn't expecting that. I have liked Ezra for the past few months, but I didn't think he felt the same way. I always suspected the flirting was just for fun, that he never really meant it. But hearing this, news I feel my heart beat faster, and I'm really happy.

Before I can say anything, he says, " I understand if you don't feel the same way. I didn't expect you too. Well….bye." He starts to stand up.

I grab his arm and say, "No, wait! Ezra, I like you too." I feel my face getting red, and I see his face getting red as well. He sits back down. We sit in silence for a minute, then I ask, "Why do you like me? I mean, I never thought anyone would like me."

He takes a deep breath, and says, " You are amazing. The look in your eyes when you're determined, it lights a fire in you. You are one of the most stubborn people I've ever met, but that's good, you don't give in easily. You never give up or give in. You always have the best jokes, and you are so smart. And you are really nice. You may not think it, but you really are. There are many days when I'm down and you make me feel better."

After saying all that, he looks at me. I stare at him, speechless. When I finally find my voice again, I say, " Um...wow. I never knew...Ezra, I'm glad you told me that you liked me, and I told you."

"Same. Sabine, will you go out with me?"

"Uh, yeah. Duh."

He laughs, and I poke him. After a minute, I lean closer towards him. He puts his arm round me. We watch the rest of the sunset, in quiet happiness.
