AU story

"Vega," Jade said, "Look… Tori rather look I understand you're upset. I understand you're having a rough day but let me tell you something. That guy is the biggest idiot to ever walk this earth. He couldn't recognize a good thing if it walked up and knocked him upside the head with a two by four. Look at you. You're smart. You're funny. You can handle conflict without losing your mind. A couple of weeks ago when you had a really rough time you were back on your feet in a matter of hours. When I went through the same thing it took me days before I felt like I was emotionally capable of moving forward.

"Well to be fair," Tori said sniffling, "I did feel better in a matter of hours"

"Which is beside the point," Jade said, "I could get into so much about that day alone but the point is to sum it up you are an amazing person. I know I pick on you a lot but that's because I'm a bit jealous of you. You're more talented than me. You're further ahead than me. You're smarter than me-"

"Not hardly," Tori said

"Yes you are," Jade replied, "Ryder is an idiot if he can't see how great you are. Frankly I don't know what you would want with an idiot like him. But to be fair you didn't know he was an idiot. Tori, do you know what I see when I look at you?"

"A sixteen-year-old girl with high cheekbones and brown hair"

"Well if you want to get technical," Jade said rolling her eyes, "but I see a winner. You know what I see when I look at Ryder?"

"A guy who-"

"Couldn't recognize a winner if he fell over it," Jade said

Tori felt a lot better. Beck was staring at Jade his jaw to the floor.

"Jade," he said, "Did you just cheer Tori up?"

"I guess," she said, "I just told it like it is. That was what I was saying all along"

He kissed her.

"I am so proud of you," he said, "and I'm sorry for doubting you"

"Proud of me for what," Jade replied, "Cheering my friend up when she was feeling sad. Wow. I'm a real winner for that aren't I?"

"Yeah," he told her, "You are. That kind of behavior is winner type of behavior. I am seriously proud of you Jade. I don't think there are any words to describe how proud I am of you"

"Tori's my friend," Jade said, "and I'm not going to let her be bullied by a person who can't tell his brains from his butt if his life depended on it"

"Thank you Jade," Tori said hugging her

"You're welcome," Jade said, "By the way this is for you. It's a song I wrote. You can sing it at the sing off. It's called BEGGIN' ON YOUR KNEES."

Tori, Beck and Andre looked at it.

"Jade this is really good," Beck said, "When did you write it?"

"I wrote it about 10 minutes ago," Jade said.

"You wrote this is ten minutes," Andre asked.

"Nope," Jade said, "I wrote it in about 3 minutes."

Beck looked amazed.

"I told you," Jade said, "I'm more then surface deep"
