All Those Silly Questions
"Your hair's gotten so long, Padma," Luna cooed, running her fingers through the girl's dark locks.
"Not as long as yours," she smiled, reaching back to put a hand on one of Luna's knees. The sun was pleasantly warm and the pile of fresh flowers Luna had picked provided an unbelievable aroma.
"Still. I'm going to braid it and put all these flowers in your hair."
Padma turned her torso to look back at the blonde girl, sitting cross-legged behind her. "Those won't possibly all fit," she laughed, "my hair's not that long!"
"It certainly is," Luna replied, turning Padma by her shoulders and starting in on a small section of hair at the base of Padma's neck. She leaned forward and kissed the skin there gently. "And you are the most beautiful flower of all of them," her whispered words tickled across Padma's neck and she shivered.
Padma had always been quiet, and she loved that Luna always made her feel like she had something to say. That's probably what started their relationship, and even now it meant so much. Weaving strands of hair into intricate braids of various sizes and patterns, Luna kept up a constant stream of questions.
"What's your favorite flavor of jam? I like raspberry."
"Have you ever gotten to visit India?"
"If I tickle you, will Parvarti know?"
"How many types of freckles do you have?"
"What's your favorite holiday?"
"Which birthday was your favorite?"
The list went on and on. Sometimes Padma's answer was short, just one or two words, but sometimes she found herself talking for minutes on end without really even needing to think. She fancied that. Luna always knew which sorts of questions were going to get the most out of her.
It seemed like they'd been sitting together for several hours before the pile of flowers finally disappeared. "That took you a long time," Padma commented, turning around to face Luna and pulling the new braid over her shoulder.
"I braided it three times," Luna responded, smiling softly and looking down at hers and Padma's hands interlocked between them. "I wanted it to be perfect and I didn't want you to stop talking."
"All that time," Padma mused, leaning forward and kissing Luna gently on the mouth, "all those silly questions," another kiss, "just because you wanted to know more about me?"
"No," Luna breathed through her smile, "I just wanted to get to have you."
Padma pulled back enough to meet Luna's eyes, her melted brown ones caressing Luna's shifting green ones. "What do you mean?"
"Don't you think that after all those silly questions, you have a little bit bigger piece of me now?" she asked, turning to put her head in Padma's lap. "I thought it'd be nice to have more of you, too."
