A/N: Written back in 2014, this is a slight follow up to "Secret Admirers and Cheesy Love Letters"
Another minute passed as Arthur stared at the luminescent neon light that shone from his alarm clock. The time read somewhere around 1 AM, but he wasn't too sure; his eyesight was too blurred from lack of sleep and the neon didn't make it any better. Shifting onto his back, he stared at the ceiling in silent irritation.
Ever since the last meeting, his sleep schedule had been thrown off. Why, you ask? It's simple actually; Arthur was having nightmares. He wasn't sure why yet, since the last time he had nightmares was when he was young, but it seemed like they had come back with more vigor than ever. That's why the Brit was currently tossing around in his shared bed with Matthew.
Arthur sighed softly and sat up as carefully as he could without disturbing his sleeping companion. Just the sight of Matthew's sleeping face could calm any troubled mind. The way his fluffy blond hair fell over the pillow and formed a small halo around his head; the faint freckles on his cheeks that mimicked the stars; his soft, even breathing that was rhythmic; it certainly was calming to be around. Arthur could already feel himself slipping away, yet his mind stayed stubborn, trying to resist the fate that awaited him in Dreamland. Another sigh escaped his lips as he ran a hand through messy blond hair. 'This is the third time this week; how in the world am I going to get to sleep now?'
Matthew must have sensed something was wrong because he began to stir from his sleep, bleary violet eyes looking at Arthur with concern. "Mmm, Arthur," the Canadian murmured from his spot on the bed, "is something the matter?"
"Ah, I just can't sleep, that's all. I'll be fine though; you should go ahead back to bed."
The bed shifted underneath the both of them Matthew sat up and hugged Arthur, the warmth emanating from him giving off a soothing feeling. This only made Arthur want to sleep more; so he can feel this warmth during dreams.
A soft melody floated through the air, the voice faint and distant, but Arthur recognized it. He looked up at Matthew who was singing a lullaby, the tune lovely and light. Arthur felt his eyelids getting heavy and leaned into the warmth of Matthew's embrace. It wasn't long until he fell asleep, soft breathing accompanied by the even rising and falling of his chest.
Matthew only smiled as he gave a quick kiss to Arthur's forehead before tucking him under the covers. "Good night, my darling dreamer," he whispered as he moved back to his place on the bed and closed his eyes. "I'll see you in the morning."
