It had been a wonderful adventure- but then, they always were with the Doctor. River had been accompanying the Doctor for a few months now. She knew that he had known her before, as an older woman, and as a baby. She also got the idea that the Doctor had known her quite well- as well as she hoped to know him in return.

Their timeline may be skewed, she may be only 27 and he somewhere around 934 or so, but none of that matter to River. Right now, as she walked toward the Time Lord flying his precious TARDIS, she knew what did matter.

"So tell me Doctor… are you going to kiss me or not?" River asked, looking up into the Doctor's eyes. He tilted his head to one side a bit, but she couldn't decide if he was getting ready to kiss her or thinking. It was, knowing the Doctor, probably the second one.

"Well, as much as I'd like to…" the Doctor started to answer. River wanted to bang her head into a wall. Sometimes, this man could be an unbelievable headache. In all her time of knowing him, more than twenty years since she'd met him when she was just a baby, the Doctor always had a plan or a complex thought. He was so rarely impulsive, so rarely like River. But at the same time, they were similar too.

"Before I do, I really should tell you…" the Doctor, her Doctor, continued. She wanted to tell him to shut up right about then, but she let him speak, just this once. After all, he probably would ruin the kiss by trying to talk if she didn't let him now.

"I've kissed your mum," the Doctor finished. River stared at him for a good minute, deciding whether to kiss him or slap him. She decided that both would do. River Song slapped her Doctor, hard, and before he could say anything, she pulled him in for the kiss she had been waiting for.

The Doctor seemed flustered for a moment, his hands moving through the air aimlessly. But after a few moments, he settled his hands on River's waist. After a minute, or maybe two, River pulled back.

"You slapped me," the Doctor said, immediately followed by, "You kissed me." River laughed.

"Which one surprised you?" she asked him.

"Neither. I expected to get slapped, and you've made it a habit- or, will make it a habit?- of kissing me without warning," he replied. River pushed the Doctor's hair back from his face.

"You're an idiot, do you know that?" She laughed again, and this time, her Doctor joined in, though it may have been in fear of being slapped again, but River didn't care. With happiness, they kissed again.

This time, he kissed her.
