I Thought You'd Never Ask

Leaning against the railing, looking out at the city of Atlantis and the ocean, Daniel and Vala took in the beautiful view.

In a seemingly melancholy manner, Daniel pondered the events of the day.

"Morgan did what she believed was right, Daniel. How badly can she be punished for that?" Vala reasoned turning to Daniel and placing a hand on her hip.

He glanced at her, "I don't know."

"Maybe she'll just get a slap on the wrist. Or be forced to write 'I will not interfere in the affairs of humans again' ten thousand times."

"Yeah, I doubt that." Daniel stood upright and put his hands in his pockets.

"She said you had your answer," Vala sighed, "we found out the two addresses we came here for. Can you at least… smile about that?" She offered, trying to cheer him.

"I suppose. But we did find out something else, too." Daniel looked at her with certainty.

"What?"

"They're not going to help us. We're in this alone."

After briefly looking at the ground in frustration, Vala looked back at Daniel, smiling optimistically, "oh well, you don't need their help anyway, you are Doctor Daniel Jackson of SG-1."

Daniel grinned. "That doesn't mean I don't need help."

"Ah ha, there it is."

Confusion washed over Daniel's features, "there what is?"

"You finally smiled that adorably handsome smile of yours."

Gazing at her in sudden awe, realization hitting him, Daniel finally saw what had been in front of him for so long. The peach skin of her cheeks and gloss covered lips softly glowing from the dim light outside. Her eyes twinkling radiantly with happiness as stray raven locks moved with the gentle breeze…

"What is it darling?"

"Wh, what?" Daniel snapped out of his reverie.

"Are you okay?" Her brows gently furrowed with concern. "Why were you looking at me like that?"

"Because you're so beautiful." Daniel whispered matter of factly.

"What?" Vala asked, surprise apparent in her voice.

"You're so very beautiful…and caring, among other things. I can't believe I haven't told you that before. The whole time we've been standing here, you've been trying to make me smile. You're an amazing woman, Vala."

"Wow, I'm a bit overwhelmed…I don't know what to say."

After briefly dropping his head with nervous curiosity he looked at her affectionately and replied with complete sincerity, "say what you're thinking, what you feel, what's in your heart."

"Darling, I find you unbelievably attractive, brilliant, passionate, I could go on and on. You think I'm an amazing woman, well I think you're an amazing man, Daniel."

Stepping closer, cupping her cheeks into his hands, his mouth covered hers.

Breathless and weak kneed from his kiss, she wrapped her arms tightly around his neck. Melting into him, she returned his kiss with the same intensity.

Slowly pulling out of the kiss, only to breathe, their eyes still closed, Daniel and Vala rested their foreheads together.

"Vala?" He whispered, his voice gentle yet deep and sexy.

She began to play with the short hair on his neck. "Umm hmm?"

"It's a nice night. You wanna to do some of that sightseeing you were talking about earlier?"

"Does this mean we're officially a couple?"

"Yeah."

"I thought you'd never ask."
