Lucius smiled as he entered the candlelit room. He noticed a man sitting behind a harpsichord, whispering to a woman holding a viola da gamba. They both glanced at Lucius and smiled at him. Lucius nodded his head in response.

They started their duet. Lucius closed his eyes, relaxed into his chair, and allowed the wonderful sounds to wash over him. As the second movement began, he realised he had heard it before. A moment later, he identified it as the Sonata in g minor, BWV 1029. How perfect, Lucius thought, and a completely fitting way to celebrate Bach's birthday.
