Blind Love.
Welcome to another hard night. You made it through another day.
He was watching her sleep yet again. They had been working together for a few years now and nothing too personal had ever happened between them, but he had had feelings for her since the day they met.
Sharing a hotel room with her was nothing new. They'd done it a million times before, probably. Sharing a bed wasn't new either. They'd done so on multiple jobs and they had been completely professional about it. It was just sleep after all. At the end of the day, most jobs required them to have been married either for a long time – making sex not a necessary thing to fake – or married out of some kind of 'trophy wife' situation, which basically always included him only being with her to keep up a certain image – again, no need to fake any kind of sexual contact for people who might have been spying on them.
Watching her sleep, however, had become one of his favourite things during those cases. She seemed so peaceful, so – for lack of a better, more Ziva-like word – cute. He could hardly imagine any man resisting the beauty in front of him. Yet he did so on a regular basis. He resisted the urge to tell her how he felt every second of every day. He knew it would have gotten them closer. Hell, he knew they would be together by now, if he had just said something already.
It was clear to both of them that the job was the only thing that was still keeping them apart. Words weren't needed to make that clear. Spending years, however, without really getting to be as close as they wanted to, had taken a toll on both of them.
No one said it would be easy. No one said it'd be this hard.
Just laying there, next to her, watching her sleep peacefully, he couldn't help but think about the future. He had handed in his retirement forms weeks ago and was finally not going to be her boss anymore next month. The team didn't know yet. She didn't know yet.
With every moment I'm away we're getting closer to the day we'll never have to say goodbye, love
So close.
He hadn't planned on retiring so early in his life, but circumstances made it impossible for him to continue working so close to her any longer than necessary. Leaving the job would allow him to finally tell her how he felt. It would allow them to explore their future together. Getting a job as a private investigator part time hadn't been hard. He'd still be working, just not as her boss and not running the risk of ruining their relationship by mixing business with pleasure.
This was going to be the best decision he'd ever make.
As Ziva turned around in bed to cuddle up to him – professional, my ass – she mumbled: 'I love you, Jethro'. Clearly dreaming a dream that would soon be reality. He couldn't wait – and he knew she couldn't either.
The End.
A/N: Oh shut up :D The new Bon Jovi album just got released and this song has been out for like a week or so. I've been in love with it since the day it got released, so I just needed to make this into something Zibbs-y ;D I really hope this doesn't count as a song fic, there really aren't many quotes here. Just go listen to the song on youtube or something, it's so nice.
Disclaimer: Cursive passages belong to Bon Jovi. NCIS is not mine either. I'm just a fangirl who can't keep her fandoms from colliding in her head, okay?!
Hope you liked it. Reviews are greatly appreciated :D
