You were anything but perceptive, nor could you be considered ignorant. You were simply too entranced by the light at the end of the tunnel to watch your step.

I (still) think it's part of your charm.

You came by that day. I have to admit, I was surprised. I doubt I'm in your list of priorities. You looked somehow different; there was emotion in your eyes that I couldn't identify. I shrugged it off as impatience.

Once I turned my head, you were looking intently at me. I smiled, acting on impulse. You grinned one of your cheeky grins back.

"I'm going to miss you, Shorty."

For some unknown reason, I didn't know how to respond. You, Jacob Black, were going to miss me? Yeah, right. I know you didn't really mean that; you're going to be too wrapped up with Nessie to even acknowledge my existence; especially from about a thousand miles away. I had already convinced myself that fate was playing a cruel game with my feelings; it was now only adding fuel to the nonexistent fire.

"Leah?" I looked up and was met by an intense look in your eyes.

You then brought my hand to your chest and touched my cheek; I stiffened. "This, my heart - can you feel it beating? Can you hear it pumping? It's faster than normal, isn't it?"

I gulped and nodded yes.

"It's telling you I wasn't lying. I really will miss you, Leah - whether you believe it or not", you stood up, held my hand in yours, and said, "Bye."

That was how you walked out of my house and out of my life. I didn't even get to say what I wanted to say.

Stay, love.
