Kagome had seen Inuyasha with Kikyo many times, had caught him cheating their tentative romance with the corpse of the woman whose soul was now Kagome's. Every time it happened she ran away, charging blindly into some dangerous forest or ominous village like the tragic, cliché heroine , she could feel herself becoming. Occasionally, she ran so far she found her self in Sesshomaru's midst, or on surprisingly even rarer occasions Kouga's.
Sesshomaru would simply stare at her, in her bedraggled state, weary and worse for the wear from her running and turn, walking away. No words, no glances, nothing. Nothing ever happened and the next morning Inuyasha would come tearing through whatever demon-infested forest she'd run off into the night before ears down and angry voice only for show. They never spoke of why she'd run the night before because they both knew. And as painful as that knowledge was the knowledge that it would happen again was even more painful. It was simply an undeniable fact, and she would always go back to him, telling herself lies to make that knowledge lose merit.
Some times she wished something would happen. Perhaps a handome young man or demon to sweep her off her feet, or Sesshomaru inexplicably moved by her plight would sweep her into an embrace and they'd to-hell with Inuyasha and stay forever in Sesshomaru's castle. Sometimes she wished those smutty, unrealistic romance novels Yumi read weren't so unrealistic. However, Kagome knew what niche her story fell into, and nice, reliable men wouldn't fit that no matter how much she ached for an honest touch would it ever happen. But that didn't keep her of dreaming of different silver haired, golden-eyed demons at night. Somehow, though, nothing ever happened in even her dreams because Sesshomaru would only stray a moment longer to ponder why she looked to haggard before turning, uncaring back to his world of killing. Because that handsome young man, that handsome demon that didn't want to eat her was already taken by their own fair maidens who belonged firmly to one time, because Kagome could still have gone back to Inuyasha.

Looking for Sess/Kag fanfictions and looking at all of the cliched stories I felt the need to write my own little drabble. I hope you enjoyed this angsty little blip-on-the-map.
