NEW YORK CITY, YEAR: 2020
It was the evening hours in New York, a large vast city with tall, sleek technically advanced skyscrapers, and on the ground below, lines of equally advanced and more energy dependent cars filled the roads, and seas of people of numerous races and cultures walked the streets as they go about their lives.
Like many of the other cities in the United States, as well as some countries in the world, New York had stepped into this technological age of peace and prosperity through the brilliant minds of Tony Stark and Reed Richards, both of whom played a vital part in helping the Allied Nations topple Victor Von Doom from power in the European country of Latvaria just five years prior. A conflict which the rest of the world called 'World War Doom. Needless to say, these improvements have helped New York become a city composed of technological wonders, as well as many interesting people in its vast population.
One of the said people was high above the city streets and swinging from one rooftop to another. It was a thinly built, adult masked male in a full red and blue spandex body suit, with the red portions such as his boots, mid-section, and mask, and the patches on the back of his gloves all having a black web-pattern design. The entire upper body has a giant red spider design, with the front having a spider head with mandibles pointing down his stomach, while on the back has a thorax doing down his spine and one pair of spider legs go down both of his arms and another pair wrapped around his waist. As for the mask, it covered his entire head, and had two, bugged eyed, chrome plastic lenses that allowed him to see out, but prevented anyone else from seeing in. As far as how he swung from one building to the next, he accomplished by extending his right hand, then used the tips of his middle and ring fingers to double tap s secret button hidden underneath his glove on his palm, and fired a line from out of his wrist which was made of a web-like substance that was as strong as steel, but elastic as rubber. The line then hit and stuck to the corner of a rooftop, which allowed him to swing, and he repeated the process with the other hand. It was this odd ability to shoot webs that caused both the newspapers and other media to name him 'The Spider-Man.'
After releasing the web-line he held with his right hand, Spider-Man flipped forward and landed safely on his feet on the roof of one small building, but he still kept running until he finally reached the edge and jumped up high into the air, then extended his right arm to shoot another line continued swinging. "Ah New York," Spider-Man thought calmly as he shot another line from out of his left wrist, for since he had been swinging off webs for the past three years and now found it as normal as walking, whereas normal people would consider it a huge adrenaline rush. "My home…"
At one point, Spider-Man found himself heading towards a nearby business building, and thus released the line and flung himself towards it. Once he got close enough, Spider-Man showcased another ability that earned him his name, in that he kicked his feet forward and allowed them to touched one of the windows, and thanks to the thin layer underneath his boots, his feet actually stuck to the surface instead of slipping off it. This, in turn, allowed him to run from one window to the next, much to the shock of the people still working inside. "My playground…" Once he came close to the corner of the building, Spider-Man jumped up and stopped himself from falling by pointing his right hand outward, shot a web-line and swung over and found himself arriving at Forty Second Street and Lexington Avenue, and heading straight towards the Chrysler Building, which was giving an technical, almost futuristic look just like all the other buildings in the city, but was now a towering two thousand feet as opposed to is original height of one thousand and forty seven.
Moments later, Spider-Man performed a web-based trick he called 'web-zipping, in that he pointed both of his hands forward, shot two web-lines which ended up hitting 'base' of the Chrysler Building, then yanked hard on both ends of the lines and pulled himself towards the base area of the skyscraper itself. It wasn't long before Spider-Man used both his hands and his feet to stick to the wall of world-famous building, then lifted both his left hand and foot off the surface so he could turn around and face outward, then placed said them back on the wall to prevent himself from falling down to the pavement below as he got a chance to relax and enjoy the view of the city he swore to protect. "My responsibility. And sadly, it's also a place that's filled with crooks who want to hurt good people. Whether it's a mugger…or something much worse." Spider-Man let out a melancholy sigh, as he couldn't enjoy the gorgeous sight for long. He still had a job to do in using his abilities to help those in need, and thus looked down at the crowded city streets. Afterward, he used his right hand to press a small button on his right bugged eye lens and soon activated a digital heads up display. "But on the bright side, it gives me a chance to test out these new lenses I just installed. Which required components that were so expensive, I went through half my budget and I now have barely enough money for a cab. But I know it'll be worth it…least I hope it will anyway."
Down in the crowded streets below, all seemed normal as the citizens busily filled sidewalks and went about their lives. However, despite New York's technological advances, there was one thing that remained constant since the days of the city's very first construction: Crime. And it wasn't long when it showed as a twenty-year-old white male with wearing a tan cap, a blue jacket, grey pants and worn out sneakers crept up behind an unsuspecting elderly Asian woman, in her early sixties, who wore a pink top with khaki pants, her purse over her left shoulder while also carrying her backpack, which contained workout close that were filled with sweat after a good workout in her aerobics class . A split second he snatched her purse from underneath her left arm and ran off.
Naturally, this shocked the woman greatly, and despite still being exhausted from her exercise routine, as well as knowing that her running days are long behind her, she tried to run after him but sadly couldn't catch up with the thief, thus leaving her no choice but to scream for help and hope that there would be someone in the crowd who were willing to hear her cries and help. "Stop him," she cried out frantically. "Stop that man! He took my purse!"
The woman's pleas are heard, but many of the people just ignore her, and for those who did to stop tackle the fleeing thief, they prove unable to catch him due to him outmaneuvering and staying out of their reach them with ease thanks to his quick reflexes.
But luckily for the elderly woman, her cries for help were heard not just in the streets, but by someone up above. It was that of Spider-Man, who after hearing the woman's screaming, immediately looked down and used his lens to zoom in and put the perp in his sights. "Well, it's nice to know that the zoom-in feature works," Spider-Man thought positively, then held his left hand up and shot a web-line. "Now it's time for me to show that it's not nice to steal in this dashing hero's neighborhood." With that in mind, Spider-Man jumped off the wall while holding on to the line and swung down to intercept the running thief below.
The thief himself was starting to get tired from running but saw that he was just about to reach a street corner, where he knew that there was a nearby alley. Once there, his plan was to slip into and hide in the alley, take out the money and credit cards out of the purse and when the time was right, enter the crowd and try and steal from another unsuspecting person. The thief was now just a few feet away from the corner and smiled on how easy that steal was. But suddenly, his smile vanished as he could feel something strong latch itself to his back and literally pull him up off the ground and dangle in the air, causing him to inadvertently drop the purse in the process. "What the hell?!" the thief yelled in disbelief, then looked up and saw that he was attached to a line of webbing which was tied around the base of a street lamp. As he tried frantically to get loose, the constant moving caused him to spin around slowly, and he once he faced the opposite direction, he caught a glimpse of the webbing's source and it caused his eyes to grow wide and leave him with a mixture of shock and bewilderment.
Sure enough, it was that of Spider-Man, who he himself was hanging upside down and using his feet to hold on to another web-line that was sticking to the lamp and looked at the stunned thief with a smile behind his mask. "Hey buddy," he said to the thief in a light-hearted tone, then looked down to see the purse dropped earlier and took this moment to point his right hand downward, shot a web-line which both hit and instantly stuck to the purse. Afterward, he yanked the line upward to pull the purse his way and used his left hand to catch it and show it to the thief, who still looked on in disbelief. "I don't mean to be that guy, but I don't think this purse looks good on you. But I can tell you what does: A bright orange jumpsuit! Something that the cops can hook you up with once they take you to jail, so just hang out until they get here." With that said, Spider-Man released feet's grip on the line, and as he fell, he performed a flip in a cartwheel like motion, then used his right hand to shoot another line and swung away from the lamp post. "So long, pal!"
As for the thief, he was left there dangling and frantically struggling. "Hey, don't let me like this man!" he called out to Spider-Man in pure panic. "Get me down!"
Many of the people looked on at the thief's unusual capture in utter amazement. Especially the elderly woman, who just stood there and watched what just transpired with her jaw wide open.
Seconds later, Spider-Man released the line, flipped backward in mid-air and landed safely on his feet and right in front of the stunned woman. "Here you go, ma'am," said Spider-Man, sounding friendly as he presented the woman with the purse that was stolen from her.
While looking baffled and not knowing what to do at first, the elderly woman soon took the purse back. "Thank you, young man," were the words she said once she regained the ability, sounding befuddled, but nevertheless grateful.
An appreciative Spider-Man gave the woman a small shrug, with his mask still hiding a small smile. "Hey, no problem. All in a day's work for you Friendly Neighborhood- "
"Spider-man!" yelled a scared thirty-year-old, balding and slightly overweight white male in casual clothing and not too far away from the scene, watching with his eyes wide open with fear as he saw Spider-Man handing the woman back her purse. "It's that Spider-Man guy on TV! He's trying to steal from that old lady!"
Another citizen, an equally scared Latina in her forties quickly reached in her purse and pulled out a small black remote with a red button, which she began to press frantically.
This resulted in two oval shaped NYPD cruisers to drive in and arrive at the scene in seconds. It wasn't long before the doors opened, and eight police officers, each wearing blue and black armor body armor based on the design by Tony Stark himself, all stormed out of their vehicles, seven of whom pointed their glowing open palms at Spider-man while one of them stay by the drivers seat to address the people still looking in awe. "Everyone please move along," said the officer who was a female in her thirties, in a calm yet demanding tone. "There's nothing to see here!"
As for the rest of the armored officers, one of them stepped forward with his palms still pointing at Spider-Man himself. "Freeze!" he yelled "Get on the ground right now!" Out of many of the things he's heard about this masked vigilante, one of the things he most commonly heard was that of 'masked menace', at least from the people of the Daily Bugle. As such, he, along with his fellow officers were given orders to try and bring him in as soon as he was spotted.
This development, however, only made Spider-Man let out a resigned sigh, as he knew that despite the good that he's been doing for the city, he was not the most well-liked person in the eyes of the police. "Just great," he said in a discouraged tone, then turned to address the elderly lady, who was now more shocked due to the police's arrival. "Anyway, glad I was able to help. Take care." After giving his friendly goodbye, Spider-Man ran off, jump up and shot two lines to zip upward into the air and back on to the rooftops above.
This, of course, caused six of the eight officers to go on pursuit by using armors to not only jump up into the air but also use the rocket boosters in their feet to give pursuit, leaving the other two officers to try and control the crowd of onlookers.
However, as she looked up, the elderly woman tried to reach out and run towards the officers to try and stop them from making a mistake. "No wait!" she yelled out to them. "He was trying to help me!" Sadly, the officers were now too far away for them to hear her, and all that was left for the woman was to pray for Spider-Man's safety and hope that the officers didn't hurt him, or that he would be able to get away.
Up above, Spider-Man himself found himself landing and running on a rooftop with the armored officers still hot on his trail. At one point, the officer that was leading the squad decided to put this chase to an early end by setting his right gauntlet to the 'stun setting' then pointed it Spider-Man who was just about to reach the edge of the roof. Now knowing that this web-shooting masked man was not going to comply with there demands, the officer fired a light blue colored stun blast, with the target being Spider-Man's back.
However, just as he was inches away from the ledge, Spider-Man stops dead in his tracks when he felt a strong tingling sensation in the back of his skull. This unique ability was what he called the 'Spider-Sense' and it usually occurred whenever he was near potential or immediate danger. And to avoid the danger that was the stun blast, Spider-Man quickly ducked to allow the blast itself to fly right over him and hit the ledge, where it dissipated on contact. A sight which startled Spider-Man enough to make his eyes grow wide behind his bug-eyed lenses. "That was too close," he thought to himself but was startled by his Spider-Sense once again, all which prompted him to jump up and flip backward to avoid another stun blast which ended up hitting the place where he once stood. Upon landing on his feet, Spider-Man was completely shocked as he looked at the singed place of where the blast hit. "And so was that!"
Back in the sky, the six armored officers all just hovered and looked down in awe as Spider-Man was able to dodge the last two stun blasts, with speed that almost made him look like a red and blue blur. All which led to one of the stunned officers, a young man in his twenties who was a brand-new wide-eyed recruit starting his first day, to say what he and the rest of his squad were thinking. "Wow, this Spider-Guy's got some moves!"
The leading officer took offense to the rookie being amazed by how Spider-Man's agility, and thus turned to him angrily. "Be impressed on your own time, rookie," he barked, then turned back down to Spider-Man, charged up his gauntlets and pointed them down at his agile target. "Take him down! Now!" With that order, the agitated officer fired two more stun blasts to take down Spider-Man and put this chase to an end.
This action resulted in Spider-Man's Spider-Sense to tingle once again, all which prompted him to quickly leap to the left to avoid the blasts and ended up using his hands and feet to stick to an old abandoned water tower that was nearby. Seconds later, Spider-Man looked over his right shoulder to address the hovering officers to try and reason with them. "Okay guys, look, I know you're just doing your jobs," he said trying to sound as calm as he can. "But listen, the Bugle's got it all wrong! I'm one of the good guys who's trying to help you and the city!"
The leading officer was in no mood to hear whatever Spider-Man had to say, especially with how he avoided his last two blasts and made him, one of the bests marksmen in the precinct, look like an amateur. "Yeah, and you can tell us all about after we book your spandex-wearing butt," replied the unconvinced officer, then pointed his index finger at Spider-Man as he gave this order. "Net him!"
One of the officers heeded his superior's word, and thus took aim with his left gauntlet and fire a glowing green ball towards Spider-Man, which within seconds, began to spread out into a wide net, one that was as wide as the tower itself.
Naturally, Spider-Man spotted this and was surprised to see how wide the net was, no doubt a design from either Tony Stark or Reed Richards, two scientists that he looked up to. "Oh man!" said the shocked Spider-Man, then jumped off the tower, and in the process, allowed the net to pass underneath him and wrap around the tower instead. Once he was up high into the air and right above the officers, Spider-Man made his escape by shooting to web-lines at the top of a taller building nearby and zipped right over his armored pursers.
This did not sit well with the leading officer, as he always hated it when criminals, superpowered or not, made him and his officers look like fools by evading them. "Stay on him!" he barked, then powered up his jet boots and zoomed after Spider-Man, with the rest of the officers not far behind.
Spider-Man himself was now running on the roof, and through the tingling of his Spider-Sense, he jumped up to avoid another her stun blast, and shot a web-line from out of his right wrist and zipped over to the right side and over to the wall of a nearby building. Moments later, he used his feet to bounce off the wall, and after pointing his left hand at a much taller building on the left, he shot a web-line and zipped over to that roof. Once he used his hands to stick to the edge of that roof, Spider-Man hopped up, landed safely on the ledge with his feet, and while showcasing perfect balance, he started running forward on the edge. It wasn't until he once again alerted by his spider-sense that he jumped and flipped in a corkscrew motion to the right side, all to avoid another stun blast that was fired.
While in the air, Spider-Man quickly used his right hand to shoot another web-line and swing away, all with the police still chasing him, which caused him great annoyance. As if his chance to test his new lenses ending in a police chase wasn't bad enough, the masked web-slinger veered right and spotted something just straight ahead that caused him further heartache.
It was that of a large digital billboard on the side of a building, one that was advertising the Daily Bugle and showed it's editor, J. Jonah Jameson, a Caucasian male in his mid-fifties, black hair with graying sides in a flattop hairstyle and mustache, dressed in a white dress shirt and tie. He had his arms crossed and appeared to have determined expression with big bold letters that spelled 'Daily Bugle: News that you can trust.'
A sight which made Spider-Man more irritated than he already was. "And there's the loud-mouthed crackpot who's responsible for the cops, as well as ninety percent of the city, hating my guts," he thought to himself, then suddenly, his annoyance was brought to an abrupt halt when he felt the tingling of his Spider-Sense return, forcing him to point his left hand to the right side, shoot a web-line and swing over to that side, all to avoid another stun blast and have it hit the Daily Bugle billboard instead, specifically in the area where Jonah's face was located.
As he continued to swing away, Spider-Man couldn't help but reminisce to his early years after dodging the last blast. "Still, I'd be lying if I said that this situation didn't remind me of another crazy old coot. One who, unlike Jameson, actually helped me by teaching me how to do this crazy stuff…"
