What a day! thought Sakura. The New Year's festival was so wonderful and it was so nice to see all our friends from other villages! The pinkette walked back to her apartment with a cheerful gleam on her face. Everything's turning out great; Naruto has finally become Hokage, and that gave him the courage to propose to Hinata! I'm so happy for them. The wind blew a bit harder and carried the smell of ramen, sake, and fire crackers.
Despite its oddness, Sakura very much enjoyed walking in the early morning just before dawn. The air was always crisp and fresh and there were never many people outside (and most people had gone inside to finish their festivities). She sighed as she allowed herself to be engulfed by her thoughts. Everyone's fulfilling their dream. Naruto is Hokage, I'm a medic, Kakashi, well, he still has his perverted books I suppose, and Sasukeā¦She inhaled sharply. Tears threatened to spill from her eyes, but she forced them back. She refused to cry over him. Sakura hadn't realized that she was standing outside her door. She fumbled with the lock and instantly ran to her couch. She collapsed onto the soft cushions and clenched her fists. Did Sasuke ever complete his dream?
Sakura shivered. Her apartment wasn't cold, but the bittersweet memory of her ex-teammate did make her heart heavy. She forced herself to calm her thoughts and closed her eyes, thinking only of Sasuke as she drifted to sleep.
In another village within the Land of Fire, the last remaining Uchiha lay awake in bed. He couldn't sleep. A certain annoying bubblegum-haired female was clouding his mind.
"Of course the room they give me has a full-blown view of a cherry tree," he murmured to himself, obviously irritated. Sakura had been pretty cute; Sasuke liked her pink hair and large forehead. They made her unique.
"I wonder if she's changed at all. It has been seven years since I left." He was only a few villages away from Konoha. He still wasn't sure if he wanted to return to the village and see her again. As he lay in bed, gazing at the sakura blossoms blowing in through the breeze, he could only think of how badly he wanted to be with Sakura. Sasuke had a weird feeling in his chest; he had fulfilled his lifelong dream of killing Itachi, yet he still felt that he was missing something in his life. All the while his thoughts were circling around Sakura. He gasped. Could it be? Could it be that she's what I need in my life?
It suddenly made sense to him. As startling as it was, the fact that Sasuke was in love with Sakura made total sense. He smirked. All of this time he had loved Sakura without even realizing it.
"Maybe now I'll be able to restore my clan," he said mischievously as he closed his eyes and allowed the image of a certain pinkette to ease him into sleep. Miles away, Sakura was sound asleep while a very handsome, black-haired Uchiha filled her dreams.
