Just a drabble on Diana's thoughts about mankind and Ares. Takes place somewhere in between BvS and Justice League. Please enjoy!

OoOoOo

For as long as Diana could remember, everything had been so black and white.

Ares was evil. He was a brute, a bloodthirsty monster. With the creation of mankind, he was haunted by vengeance and jealously and it only festered over time. The Gods and the Amazons; they were the good guys. They fought to protect mankind from Ares' wrath. And they did, with a price of course. All of the Gods had lost their lives in battle, as well as countless Amazons. But they won, and that was all that mattered.

Except, not really.

If her time in Man's World had taught her anything, it was that no one is all good and no one was all evil. Not her mother, not her aunt or sisters, not Ares, not even herself. Everyone had a dark side and everyone had a light side.

As she looked back on it, Diana realized that Ares wasn't evil. Not truly. While his father and the other Gods adored the newly-made humans, he saw them for the imperfect beings they were. He knew they would cause destruction and pain wherever they went. He knew that allowing them to run free would lead to the demise of this world.

Was he wrong? Absolutely not. Though, there was a time when she thought otherwise.

Much like the Gods, Diana was fascinated by mankind as a small girl. They interested her, intrigued her. She'd always wanted to visit Man's World, to learn about their people and their cultures. Maybe it was because she was Zeus' daughter, maybe it was because that was just who she was. Either way, she had dreamed about going and helping them ever since she first heard the story.

The Great War was her chance. Her chance to help the world any way she could. She had assumed that the war had only started because of Ares' influence and once he was gone mankind would finally be at peace. No more wars, no more pain and suffering. Everything everywhere would be almost as wonderful as it was on Themyscira.

Upon actually going there, however, she found that this was not the case.

Even though General Ludendorff hadn't been Ares, she still discovered that killing the God of War changed nothing. Mankind didn't need that influence to ruin itself. Ares may have provided the ideas, but it was carried out by people. There was no enemy that she could beat to solve the world's problems. And no matter how strong she was, no matter how powerful the weapons that she used were, there was no such thing as a perfect world.

So, who was the real villain here? Ares, no matter how twisted his solution was, was trying to save the rest of the world from the ticking time bomb that was mankind. The German Army were people and people were imperfect. No matter how angry she was at them for ruining all those lives, she couldn't pin everything on them.

The truth was, there is no bad guy. Only people and their decisions. The line between good and evil was easy to cross, she supposed. One mistake could make you the villain to someone else's story.

One hundred years living in Man's World had aged her more than thousands of years on Themyscira. Regular people taught her more everyday than the elder Amazons ever could. The world wasn't perfect. It was cold and cruel and desperately imperfect. But as she looked around, gazing at the people she has surrounded herself with gave her hope.

One day, maybe she would achieve that perfect world.

Didn't really turn out as good as I had hoped. Oh well, I hope you liked it. Please review!
