No brains, no brawn- face it, kid, you're nothing without that journal!

Bill's voice echoed in Dipper's head as he screamed, leaning over the edge of the cliff and watching his sister fall to the bottom. She was crying, both hands reaching for her brother. Dipper shut his eyes, reaching further and further down until he reached his limit without toppling himself. Mabel gave a half-choked cry of "Dipper!" but was cut off by the giant, Gideon-shaped robot hitting the ground, creating a plume of smoke and flame. Dipper screamed again, tearing his throat, still reaching for his sister that he would never be able to hold onto again.

-2 Years Later-

A bell above the door at the Nasty Burger announced the arrival of a stranger donning a blue hat and vest, with a bracelet made of ripped chunks of cloth prominent on his wrist.

He slid into a booth seat, examining a menu and quietly asking for a side salad and a water. His thin frame indicated that this was his typical meal. The waitress took down his order and left quickly; his presence made her uncomfortable.

While he was waiting for his meager lunch to arrive, the stranger pulled out a worn brown journal and began flipping through it, quickly becoming completely absorbed in whatever was written. His food went untouched for a while until he realized with a start that it had, in fact, been delivered.

His slow eating was interrupted by a crash coming from the opposite wall, plaster flying through the air and landing on his salad.

"Ghost!"

This chapter is short, I know. I'm really just trying to get the ball rolling, so expect the next one to be much longer.
