1You

-Elphaba's poem to Fiyero

Since the day I was born,

I was brought up with scorn,

hated by all the world,

but you.

From the moment I was green,

and looked so obscene,

everyone feared me,

but you.

Cast aside, and despised.

I was bought, and bribed.

My father, mother, sister hate me.

As did all, but you.

I dressed all in black,

in a frock like a sack,

so I could be mocked,

by all, but you.

Not cared for, unkempt,

never dare, never dreamt,

that I would meet someone,

like you.

Caring for my Nessarose,

and despising all of those,

that dared spare me a passing glance.

All but you.

When I came to school,

I looked a like little fool,

and was hated by all,

even you.

And then, even when,

I had a single friend,

I was still nothing,

but to you.

So I ran far away,

where I thought I could stay,

and hide from all of Oz,

but you.

I fought every and all,

those who had the gall,

to oppose me like that-

but not you.

I took in my Chistery,

my precious little monkey.

I loved him alone,

and you.

Those blasted shoes,

seemed like a ruse,

for the wizard to find me,

and you.

You found me again.

Like a demon seraphim,

I flew through the skies,

with you.

The girl went home,

we're all alone,

running from Oz,

me and you.

And look at us now!

I will never know how,

but I'm so glad to have you.

But- are you?
