"Tobey..."
"Gah!" The blonde dropped the pile of metal he had been carrying onto his toe. "Ah! WordGirl! You made me drop it!" He shouted, and bent over to massage his foot.
WordGirl came out from behind the oak tree, laughing at all the mischief her whisper had caused.
"You know, you should really be the one cleaning this up!" Tobey indignantly waved a robotic arm at her.
"Me? And why's that?"
"You're the one who made my robot fall apart! I'm not the one who made this mess!" He added under his breath, "and I'm not the one who lives here."
It was true, Tobey's mother came and he offered to clean up the mess he hadn't made after a fan club meeting had gone awry. It was only an automatic response out of fear.
"Come on, Tobey! You were going to destroy my broth—to destroy this club house!" WordGird's eyes flashed in alarm and caught Tobey's. A look of silent agreement passed between them. WordGirl knew Tobey knew her secret identity, yet they both knew Tobey wasn't going to say anything. "You're secret is safe with me," his eyes flickered.
"Well my robot fell apart because of you nonetheless... and I still think you owe me a secret."
"Excuse me?" WordGirl said in disbelief as she took a few steps closer.
"I think it's only fair! And your secret from before wasn't about me at all. It was about my robot. And! You said it was a secret that no one else knows. Well, your little sidekick knew..."
"Well, yeah, but your robot was made by you and—"
"You can refute one point, but you can't refute them all," Tobey sang.
"Alright, Tobey," she spat. "I can humour you... let's see, a secret... hmm." Wordgirl hovered in a seated position, a fist under her chin.
"And make sure it actually has to do with me this time!"
"Alright, I have it. Okay... now this secret, no one does know." WordGirl came up to Tobey's ear and began whispering. "I have a crush... on a certain boy genius."
Tobey grabbed her wrists and pulled her to face him.
"What did you say?"
"I said—" but she wasn't able to repeat herself once Tobey was kissing her.
"That's what I thought you said," Tobey said once they came back for air. He straightened his glasses.
"So, will you count that as a secret?" WordGirl asked indignantly. In a bout of super speed and strength she cleared the rest of the metal into Tobey's gathered pile.
"Yes, I suppose I can find that adequate..." he cleared his throat. "And, did cleaning just now mean you admit you had the responsibility the mess?"
"Don't push it, Theodore." WordGirl said as she crumpled up her pile until it was small enough for the outdoor trash bin.
"Right. Just checking..." the blonde rubbed his neck awkwardly.
"So, do you want a lift home? Your mother's still inside and I can't imagine you wanting to leave with her..."
"Thank you... wow, I love the idea of flying, but for today is it alright if we just," he shuffled next to her purposefully awkward, "walk?"
In response Wordgirl gave a slanted smile. She took his hand in hers, and kissed him gently before they headed to the streets.
A/N: I haven't posted much lately, so sorry about that. I hope to publish a lot of my started fan fiction drafts over break though. Some of them are really close to ready. Like this poor thing... it was sitting for months and I barely changed anything to bring it to you kind folks. Anyway, thanks for reading and I don't own WordGirl or the characters.
