Just Stop

Tick, tock. Tick, tock.

The clock continued to count seconds as he lay there on the bed getting more and more angry, worry and sadness turning into anger close to fury. His fingers tapped irritably on the mattress where his arms rested beside him as his scarlet eyes narrowed at the cieling, his jaw clenching and unclenching as the clock carelessly continued its tick tocking.

How could he be expected to sleep now? How could any of his "friends" sleep right now? Tomorrow...Tomorrow was the end of everything..

He growled at the reminder, casting his eyes to the side where his deck lay next to Yugi's. He and his aibou had both created their own decks to face against one another the following day, years as friends, as partners, recently as lovers and now it could all be taken away. He would die, a true death if he lost the ceremonial duel whatever made his heart beat at this moment would cease to function when and if he lost.

It was hard to believe really, that he had first longed for the eternal rest that was almost upon him now when he first met Yugi, now he wanted nothing more than to take back that desire, to turn back time and keep himself from finding his memories, from ever even bringing up that longing to Yugi. He had thought he wanted it then, thought that he wanted that eternal sleep more than anything, but when he and Yugi met and from there became closer and closer until they confessed their love for each other, he knew he'd made a horrible mistake.

"I don't want to leave you...Yugi please.."

They had both told one another they would give the duel tomorrow their all and he was proud that Yugi had every intention of doing just that, but he hoped now, hoped beyond anything that if he couldn't win on his own, that Yugi would allow him...

He shot up in the bed then, eyes wide, mouth hung open.

What had he been about to wish?!

For Yugi to go easy on him?!

That wasn't like him at all! It was cheating! Yugi would never...but...NO!

The former Pharaoh flopped back against the bed, his heart hurting, his eyes tightly closed and his fists clenching the blankets beneath him harshly until his knuckles turned white until he got control over his thoughts, over his heart once again. The clock chiming and declaring it to be midnight had him opening his eyes and he noticed only then the prescence of his little one laying beside him. He turned to his hikari, not hiding the sadness, fear, longing in his heart which showed through his eyes which Yugi responded to with a sniffle and a soft and loving kiss they both hoped would last until forever.

Tick, tock. Tick, tock.

As if mocking them, the clock continued to count the seconds which made the former Pharaoh hold his love tighter to him, his eyes squeezing while shut, one request to father time crying out from both souls on the bed.

Please, just stop!
