Kill Them, Kill Them Not

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.

Itachi wonders what to do.

He loves Konoha, he really does, but this is his family that is on the line. And what about Sasuke? Sasuke will grow strong, no doubt, and maybe eventually surpass even him. Leaving him to feed off of vengeance would be cruel.

But Konoha ordered him to do it.

Konoha ordered him to eliminate the Uchiha clan as punishment for planning a coup d'etat.

And he loves Konoha. But he loves Sasuke, too. And Sasuke is innocent of the imminent charges, so he can live.

But leaving him to that would be cruel. It would be kinder to just kill him as well.

Then, Itachi notices.

Sasuke has not returned home from the Academy yet. He must be staying behind for extra practice.

He will grow strong, Itachi repeats in his head.

Above everything, Itachi loves his little brother the most. If the Uchiha were to live and succeed in their conspiracy, that would not stop them from trying to mold Sasuke into the same thing that Itachi has become.

Itachi cannot let that happen.

But still, there are the consequences.

Kill them.

Kill them not.

Kill them.

Kill them not.

Itachi wonders if he should be plucking petals off of a flower as he has seen so many others do when no one else is looking.

He decides.

If Sasuke comes home before the time it would be best to carry out his assignment, Itachi will not kill them.

Sasuke doesn't come home on time.

I know. This really doesn't make sense. It just popped up into my head, for some reason. This is kind of messy, so I might come back and clean it up some day. For now, I think I have sufficiently creeped myself out.
